REBECCA FORREST. AUGUST EIGHTH, 2013.
"Are you sure?"
Why didn't I believe him? Maybe it was easier that way. My hands were shaking, so I shoved them deeper in the pockets of my "Tourist History" pullover. I fidgeted with some stray straw wrapper in my pocket.
"Rebecca, I've loved you since the night of that concert."
Since the night that Akira made me out to look like a slut? The night I was wearing something that my mom would have backhanded me for? Since you saw my body, and got a grip on what I had to offer you? Get over yourself.
I didn't speak. I just looked away, to the base of the tree we were standing beside.
"Your smile had me starstruck. The way you spoke just left me numb. In the best way, of course."
Shut up, Ares. You want me for my body. I know it. I know it because you aren't the first to confess to me. And you won't be the last. All because of that damn concert. All because of Akira.
"Rebecca Forrest, will you go out with me?"
I paused. My heart skipped a beat. The way he said it was more genuine than any of those guys that had just tried to get into my pants the second I got in their car. This was a real, honest crush. I couldn't believe it.
"...Yes."
