I nod back and I ask to go to the bathroom, Mr. Upper lets me go, I smile at Mr. Upper and leave the class. Ryan comes out into the hall and we run outside to the front of the school, we get in his truck and drive away...another date...another fun time...another heart break?
“Where are we going to eat?” I ask checking my watch for the time.
“Um... I was thinking, Benny's? He asks.
“Okay! I love their food, I think I will have the pizza today with fifty hot wings,”
I order the pizza for me and Ryan, he orders the drinks...two cokes and a jug of water.
“Amber,listen I am so sorry for what I did,”
“Tell my father that, he's not allowing you to come over anymore. If I am caught with you I will be in big trouble,” I whisper so the other tables won't hear.
“I guess not,I just hope me and your dad can be friends again,” He says sipping his coke.
I take a drink and remember the time Ryan and my father went fishing on July 4th and they ate dinner together that same night. Just then I see a poster, “April 9th 2013 Record Deal Contest.” I look at it deeply, I imagine myself on stage singing my heart out for money! What a great job!
“Amber, is that you?” I hear a voice say. I look over my shoulder and see my father.
“DAD? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?” I ask thinking about Ryan getting beat up again.
“Me and Freddy were gonna have a beer,” He says looking around.
“Yeah um it's art period and I thought I would get a bite to eat,”
My fathers face gets red, “ Alone? Huh, seems unusual because this is Ryan’s favorite place to eat and you only come here if Ryan is with you,” He replies waiting for me to give him the truth.
“Dad, please listen, I am sorry. Please don't hurt him,” I cry.
“Hey Mr. Gator,” Ryan says coming out from under the table.
“Hello Ryan, sorry about what happened,” He replies with sympathy.
Ryan shakes hands with my father, Fred and my dad sit down beside us and we all enjoy a meal together! What a happy ending? No, that’s when trouble starts. The next morning it turns out to be a teachers staff meeting from 8:30 am till 2:45 pm, so no one has to go to school expect for Ryan which is very strange.
Ryan texts me, he says, " Hey just at school with Anthony."
I read the message and drive to the school, I can see Ryan from the window. I can also see Anthony, with two girls, two around Ryan and no one around Anthony. I text Ryan, "Just you and Anthony? Wow, you little liar, I can see Rebecca around you...bye Ryan." I send the text and start to walk into the school when just then someone comes behind me and kisses me. I look over my shoulder, its Anthony.
"Hey baby girl," He says drunk.
"Hey?" I reply like it's a question.
"Ryan told me to tell you that he's breaking up with you," he says deeply.
"Thanks Anthony, I am gonna drive you home. Wait, are you guys drinking in the school?"
Anthony nods and gets into my car, I drive him home and kiss him goodbye, I block Ryan from my phone. When I get home I pick up my guitar and sing, maybe one day I will be famous...just maybe.
