It had been months since I'd last seen him, yet his demeanour was indifferent. His shaggy blonde hair was wild, left untucked over his ears and smoked black ray bans like mine concealed his gunmetal silver eyes. Stretched across his muscular chest, he wore a tight white t-shirt with loose blue denim jeans that clung snugly to his six foot frame. Hints of stubble clung to his lips as he clutched a beer to his lips sipping, and his broad shoulders dipped low over the bar table.

Clicking my black combat booties, I ignored the leeching gawks from the early morning drunkards, as I walked boldly towards his table at the back. I saw his eyes from beneath his ray bans, shift as they fell upon mine and he cocked a eyebrow playfully.

"My, my the renegade returns to the city." He smiled, bringing his beer to his lips as it sloshed over the edge.

I laughed feebly, ignoring the pounding in my head such laugh created. "You know me Caine, duty calls." Winking I reached over and grabbed the unsuspecting beer from his hands, gulping down two mouthfuls before he ripped it away.

He shook a finger at me, and I gleefully stuck a tongue out at him. It was always like this with us, we had grown up together after I had met Dante. His father was Dante's advisor and had lived in the bunkhouse on the compound with Caine. I considered him my brother regardless of blood kin. We had played together, building forts in shrubs surrounding the compound and hideaways in the tall grass. When Dante had began training me, Caine had joined us, and he too had evolved into one of the best street fighters of Los Sangres. Yet despite his training, he was never hot headed and as long as I had known him, he was always calm, his voice thick and disciplined. Never once had I seen him uncollected or rather nervous. Until now.

His hands shook slightly as he pinched the bridge of his nose, already red from his prodding and cleared his throat awkwardly. Paranoia rocketed through me, as I tensed, rolling the silver ring I wore on my index finger against my palms.

He cleared his throat, once again and I just about strangled him as silence enveloped us, clothing us like a shield.

He scratched his head, wisps of blonde sticking up like a crown in the air.

"Well." He began, struggling to find the words.

"Spit it out Caine." I grinned halfheartedly, using humour to conceal the nausea threatening to overturn my stomach.

He grimaced, studying his callused palms as he licked his lips in thought.

"He's alive, Lena." His voice lacked zeal, and was notably flat.

"Who's alive Caine?" I said, professing my rather lack of concentration, as my eyes followed the drunkards harassing the aging bartender.

"Tarantino." My eyes snapped towards him on trigger, my eyes opening wide as I bit down hard on the my lip. Anger vibrated through me in waves, as my fists tightly gripped the barstool. I hadn't heard that name in seven years, since I was twelve years old when he had ordered the execution of my parents. But he was dead, he had to be. Dante had told me, he had been murdered in a drive by shootout outside of Santa Marta two years ago.

"What the hell are you talking about?" I smirked, rolling my eyes. "Tarantino's dead, died two years ago in a drive by shootout."

"I have proof." Caine reached down into his black briefcase lying at the red tips of Vaiders, and pulled out a black and white printout. He pushed it onto the table in front of me.

"Is that him?"
