The wind whips through my blonde hair and the bag hits my back as I race down the dirt road ahead of Brit, already changed out of our servant clothes.
"Hurry up Britlara!" I yell looking behind me.
"You know I hate being called by my full name!" she says in between breaths of air. I do know, that's the point.
I sit under the shade of a tree and wait for Brit. She gasps for air and falls at my feet. I roll my eyes. Always so dramatic. "Considering how tall you are, you're sooo slow."
"Oh shut up would ya?" uh, rude.
I hold up my hands in defense, "I'm just stating facts,"
"We should probably go before our parents start worrying about us," she says slowly getting off the ground.
I sigh. She's right, they'll think we were punished for something if we don't get home soon.
Brit and I's feet pad along the road as we continue our journey to our houses, we pause at the fork at the end of the road. "See you tomorrow, Brit!" I wave.
"Yup bye," with that she goes down the right fork of the road and me the left. What are we having for dinner tonight? Probably not a lot like every other night. I did manage to sneak a couple of apples from a nobles stand though. Maybe she'll use them for dinner. I walk through the doorway of my house. "Gabbi, is that you?"
"Yes mom!" I walk into the kitchen to see my mom cutting potatoes. I drop the apples by the cutting board, and mom gives me a stern look.
"What have I said about stealing?"
"That it's wrong and I shouldn't do it."
"So why are there apples in my kitchen?"
"Because I put them there?" she scoffs but puts them in a bowl none the less. Probably to give to my two brothers tomorrow. Speaking of my brothers, the door opens and I run to Unifich. "Fich!" I jump into his arms and he wraps his arms around me. His eyes are weary and his body is slack. It must have been a hard day for him.
"Hey Gabbs," I tug out of his embrace.
"Rough day?'
"Yeah, but I'll be okay,"
We walk into the kitchen and Unifich takes a raw piece of potato and puts it in his mouth. Mother smacks his hand and give him a scolding look. He chuckles and walks off, probably to the loft.
Pomslin comes next and I give him a hug too, and we sit at the dinner table and wait for dad. It's not unusual for him to be late, he always gets home later then us. We're still waiting thirty minutes later. He never gets home this late unless something happens. Is he okay? Did he gut punished? Oh goodness, something bad happened didn't it? No, I have to stay positive, for mom. He's probably fine. There's a knock on the door. Okay, I don't think he's okay. Who's here? Probably not someone good.
We walk to the door and Pomslin opens it. A guard? Not good! Definitely not good! Please don't be what I think it is, please don't be what I think it is!
"Is this the Prive household?" We nod too weak to talk. "I'm sorry to inform you that Jansman Prive died of blood loss from whip lacerations." He says with no emotion. He's dead. Dad's dead. He's dead. But he can't be! It's like something's clutching my chest, people often describe loss feeling like that, I guess it's true. Tears sting my eyes. Don't cry, don't cry, mom needs your support. Crying is for the weak! Don't be weak. People need you, you need to be strong for them. Closing my eyes to hold in the tears, I kneel next to my sobbing mom and pull her into an embrace. It wasn't long before I feel my brothers wrapped around us both. I open my eyes and can tell they're also holding back tears.
We just sit on the floor, the guards words ringing in my head. He's gone. I'm never seeing him again. After a while mom calms down enough to tell us to get ready for bed. My brothers and I get dressed, just the thought of eating making me sick. I should stay with mom, she needs the most support right now. I tiptoe to moms room and climb into bed with her. She weeps into my chest as I hold back tears of my own. Seeing mom in so much pain just makes it all worse. Why did he have to die? Why?
A\N. Sorry it sucks, and it's really short. It's only the first chapter so hopefully it'll get better. Do you think there was to much inner dialogue? If there was anything wrong with it or any way you think I could improve, don't be afraid to comment. Have a good day
ight!
