Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!
"I can't believe I didn't introduce myself to her." I say to myself as I walk. I check my wristwatch for the time, it read 7:58. I give out a sigh. Normally, I would have freaked out since new school and all but a week ago I did a shadowing* with a childhood friend of mine so I know where all the important stuff are. I already have my schedule and locker number so I guess you could say I'm pretty prepared. I take a quick look at my schedule and see that Math is first and the classroom is around the corner.
I briskly walk to the classroom door and start to prepare to get in. A few deep breaths and I open the door. I expected the teacher to be there but surprisingly he or she is not. My classmates (a bunch of 11th graders) are chatting with each other, sometimes with a paper airplane flying by. I look around and I see that even though it's the first day of the school, the different cliques have already been formed.
Not to be rude, but I will start from the bottom of the popularity triangle. At the very bottom of course, were the emo kids. Known for their black-style clothing, they were found in the far corners of the room, not talking to anyone, looking so depressed, it's like I want to get depressed too. I shake my head clear of those thoughts. Okay, time to stop looking at the emo kids. Next are the first type of nerds , the smart ones, who were found in the right side of the room, indulged in their math and science books. I have nothing against nerds, but if they could socialize a bit more, then maybe I would like them a bit more too. Next up is the second type of nerds, the geeky ones. I could see them on the left side of the room, talking about their online games and such. Someone was holding a staff, and were those Yu-Gi-Oh cards they were holding? Anyway, I guess the only reason their "popularity position" (I kind of don't like saying that term) was higher then the first type of nerds, was that they actually socialize with other people. And last, but not the least, were the popular kids. Of course, they were in the center of the room, making about 75% of the noise. A group of mostly makeup clad girls, but a few guys off the side, I could see in the center was a girl who put on too much makeup, it looked like her face was a coloring book. I better stay away from that group.
But where do I belong?
I'm not close to being as smart as the smart nerds, if I could rate myself I'm a so-so kid. I don't have any knowledge of online or card games whatsoever (although I do play World of Warcraft myself). And I have a feeling being emo and alone is not my type at all. Just as I was about to get lost in my thoughts, a hand claps on my back.
"Hey there, Bran Bran!" I turn around and see my childhood friend, Nikoletta Winston, beaming at me with a mischevious smile.
"I told you not to call me that, Niks. I hate that nickname, it's annoying." I say with a scowl.
"I know, that's why it's fun to call you that!" she continues on with that smile of hers, "Anyways, since your new to this school, I'd like to introduce you to my group of friends."
"You have friends?" I get a jab in the shoulder because of that.
"Yes, of course, I have friends, here let me take you to them."
"Isn't our teacher supposed to be here?"
"Don't worry, teachers are always late in the morning, so Mr. Samson wouldn't be here any time soon." she says with a grin. "Now, come on!" she grabs my wrist and leads me to somewhere. I don't know who she's gonna lead me to. To the nerds? The emo kids? Or maybe the popular kids? I shudder at the thought.
Thankfully, she takes me to another group at the front of the classroom, I didn't see them before because I guess they were obscured by the mass of the popular kids.
"Here we are." she says and finally lets go of my wrist. I look at it and see red marks on my wrists. I rub it with my left hand.
"Hey that hurt, you know."
"You can take it, you're a man. Now, here are my friends." she retorts and makes a grand gesture to a small group of about 3 students. 2 guys and a girl. They all turn to me and give me a smile. I give a smile back.
"Who should I introduce first?"
*for those of you who don't know, shadowing is like an orientation before the new kid starts with school; they usually have a student or a teacher to tour them through some things
Chapter 4 done!! How was it?? Btw i have nothing against nerds (I think they're awesome) Comment on how I could get better for you guys! :) ~author
