It was the middle of the night. The only audible noise was the silence. A comfortable silence. Even the breeze gently ruffling the leaves of the surrounding trees dared not to let out a breath. Beneath the half moon were two boys, silently stargazing, silently enjoying each other's company. For they had no need to use words to express their gratitude to one another. The two boys had snuck away from their homes to this grassy hill with the stars shining and shimmering above where they sat beside each other and enjoyed themselves. This had become a habit and they'd do this every weekend.
These two boys weren't any ordinary people, at least to the folk of our world.
They knew magic. Loke studied incantations, while Vena focused more on necromancy. Now of course as they were but children they weren't allowed to use this outside supervision. Though this wouldn't stop Loke from turning pretty stones into communication devices for the both of them and didn't stop Vena from stomping on any insects he found just for the purpose of trying to speak to it, with no avail since he could not comprehend their buzzing. Plus, none of the other children paid mind to it, they were never ones to be left behind on some fun.
Loke and Vena now lay next to each other gazing up at the glittery canvas above them. Vena turned his head to his friend and waited till Loke faced him too "Hey you know that one spell we learnt in class today?" Vena questioned
"Oh yeah that one uh-" Loke answered snapping his fingers in attempt to recall the name "- the one blood promise or something? Why do you want to do it?" Loke's eyes lit up at the idea and both the boys sat up now looking for a sharp object hidden somewhere among the soft green grass. Vena rummaged through his bag for the needle he brought with him. He knew Loke wouldn't be opposed to it, what could go wrong? So he had tossed it carelessly in his (almost) falling apart bag while taking his leave, jumping out of his window onto the apple tree that had been thriving behind their house for lord knows how long.Loke scooched up closer to him looking at the needle in his hand and offered "Can we promise not to ever kill each other like in those cool books?"
Vena gasped "Oh that's brilliant! I could be the hero and you could be my side-kick!"
"Ok but then I'm that one side kick who has to get you out of all the mess you create," Loke pouted.
"Very well my dear side kick," Vena took both of Loke's hands in both of his and they both looked at each other giddy with excitement.
"Are we really doing this?"
"What? Are you a coward? Or are you secretly plotting to kill me?"
"Ok ok, shut up we're doing this,"They both stared each other dead in the eyes, encouraging one another and mustering their courage for the spell they would never be able to undo. Then they both closed their eyes. The stars watched as they made their oaths before they would mix their bloods and seal the curse.
"I solemnly swear that I shan't be the cause of your fall"
