Thick, near-black, coppery-tasting tar. Or, at least, it seemed like tar. It was thick, bittersweet, and suffocating. It smelled of rot. And someone, a very particular someone, had the misfortune to be drowning in it.
Felix Hale. A pale, tall man, with sparkling violet eyes and near-white blonde hair- dyed, of course. A dynamic, fun personality, always seeking adventure.
Back to the scene at hand- Felix thrashed and writhed around in this thick, rotten 'tar.' He was panicking, trying to surface at the top, but the tar wouldn't let him swim upwards. It dragged him down, down, down, deeper than anyone could imagine. It felt like hands were gripping his ankles and dragging him to the bottom of this sea of tar- no, blood- in a desperate attempt to either escape for themselves or bring him with them. It was unclear which.
Right before it all went dark...

Felix awoke in a cold sweat, sitting up quickly and gasping for breath. He clicked the bedside lamp on, letting out a sigh of relief as he realized it was just that odd dream again.
"Felix? Are you okay?" A voice asked, and Felix turned his attention to the boards at the top of the bed, where the second bunk was resting- whom his best friend, Sephitis, had been sleeping on. Sephitis had been staying at Felix's place for about a month now and would be staying until he got enough money to get his own apartment.
"Yeah, sorry for waking you up, Seph."
"Did you have that dream again? The drowning one?"
"Yeah. It's the seventh time this month that I've had that dream." Felix sighed, staring up into the bottom of the top bunk's mattress. "Do you ever think that dreams... can become reality?" Felix tilted his head, before continuing- he could basically see the unimpressed look on Seph's face. "I mean, I don't know, I'm probably just being paranoid... it's probably nothing."
"Damn right. It's just a dream, Felix. Chill out."

Maybe he was right, maybe it was just a dream. Maybe he was just being a baby.

Either way, Felix had to do some work, which happened to be in the forest today.
He ate his breakfast, showered, got dressed in his work uniform, and right as he opened the door-
"Be careful, Felix! Don't want the forest monsters to shove you into the blood lake."

Felix chuckled and rolled his eyes. "Yeah, whatever. Monsters aren't real, you said it yourself."
He walked out the door, laughing to himself, but he still felt that creeping anxiety, making the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.

That was the last morning that Seph would ever spend with Felix.
