First, I prepared myself for the long, gruesome journey ahead. I sat down and put my fingers on my neck to feel my heart beats. Lacey came up to me and said "Ugly, I'm gonna start the stopwatch. Are you ready?" I sighed, "Yes, I will never be this prepared again in my life." She said, "Okay, here we go." I started counting my heart beat. 1...2...3..4. Finally, what felt like years, 15 seconds was over. I told her the number..."21." I said. She slammed her hand on the desk and screamed, "WHAT'S 21 MULTIPLIED BY 4?" I jumped and started panicking. "U-um!" Everything was going so fast and my head was spinning. She screamed again, "WHAT IS IT!?!?!?" I yelled, "IT'S 88!" She looked astonished. Her jaw dropped and she looked at me in fear. "What?" she said, wide eyed and standing up, she plopped back down into her seat. "Are you okay..?" She looked at me, "T-that's.." My heart dropped, had I seriously gotten it wrong? After months of training for this moment, it all went to waste? I sat blankly, waiting for her to tell my I was wrong. Her expression was finally calmed but she still looked stiff. She opened her mouth, "You are..correct!" I gasped. Tears of happiness immediately started running down my face. Everyone in the class started clapping and applauding. And then I went to write my answer down on my assignment and then it hit me. There were 4 spaces. I froze and my smile dropped. I cautiously raised my hand and Mr. Yamane came over. "Do you need help?" I asked while staring at the screen, "Why are there four columns...?" He looked at the screen and said, "You have to take your heart beat for 15 seconds 2 more times then find the average." and with that, he walked away. My tears of happiness have already stopped at this point and I was frozen in place with my mouth open in shock. "N-no..No! THIS CAN'T BE!" I was in hysterics. I fell out of my seat backing away from my chromebook in pure fear. I finally hit the wall and just sat, stiff as a board against the world. Lacey was staring me in pure horror, I was focused on her wondering why she was more scared than I am. I fixed my focus back on the chromebook but my worst fear had come true. The chromebook was gone. I immediately got up and sprinted to my desk, I looked everywhere and I couldn't find it. I slammed my hands on the desk after my final attempt of finding it. I was sweating, on the verge of tears. Lacey suddenly screamed as she turned white as a ghost, "BEHIND YOU!" I immediately whipped my head around and the chromebook was sitting right behind me. In all the unanswered columns there were the words, "ANSWER ME." I was defeated. I didn't know what to do. I was staring at it. Someone came up behind me in a dark cloak and started speaking, "Answer all of them and you will be free." and as he finished his sentence he disappeared into nothing. I sat there, dumbfounded for a couple seconds. I got up and Lacey, having that same expression on her face that you would think her face was stuck like that, said, "What are you doing...? We can't do this Kayleigh! No, IT'S IMPOSSIBLEEEEEE!" I went up to her and slapped her in the face. "GET IT TOGETHER LACEY." I screamed with my hand wrapped around the collar of her shirt looking like I'm about to punch her face in. I grabbed the chromebook and shoved a stopwatch in Lacey's hand and slammed the chromebook down. I told her to reset the stopwatch as it was still on 15 seconds from when we did our first trial. I put my fingers on my neck and told her to start. Before she started she said, "Are you sure this is a good idea?" in a weak voice. "Heh, would you rather be stuck with this for the rest of your life? I know well that I'm not letting that happen to me." I said, smiling heroically as a single tear fell down my right cheek. "Okay. Here we go." I heard the beep of the stopwatch start and started to count, 1...2...3...4...and so on. It was finally over. The second trial. I was shaking but still smiling that heroic smile. I told her the number."23." She immediately multiplied it by 4 as she can multiply any number by 4 besides 21. "92!" she yelled. I grabbed my chromebook and went into the second column and deleted the words, "ANSWER ME" and replaced them with "92". I sighed in relief, one step closer to being done. I told her once again to reset the stopwatch and she did. We did it all over again for the third time, 1...2...3...4... It was over again. Much quicker than the first two times. I told her the number with no hesitation, "20." She answered back with, "80." as tears fell down her face. I couldn't help but giggle as I was watching her. Now, the average. I was calmed by then and confident. "86." a voice from behind us said, we turned around but no one was there. I sat, quickly getting deep in thought as Lacey watched. I repeated the words that came from behind us, "86" and Lacey looked a little cautious but she has trust in me. We both wrote down all of our answers. We had defeated the first row. "Now...the real test." I said, making eye contact with Lacey and my eyes started to water as I was literally touching eyes with her. I pulled away and sighed. "Let's do this, I just need to do this 3 times again but breathe slower this time." I could tell Lacey had finally gained confidence in our work. It took awhile but, finally, finally, FINALLY! We finished it. We were nervous, sweating, and shaking. I cautiously moved my cursor to the "TURN IN" button and paused to make sure there were no tricks. After a few seconds I clicked it. I actually did it. I was there, staring at the screen and an "UNSUBMIT" button. I looked at Lacey and a huge smile formed on our faces. We started screaming, "WE DID IT! WE DID IT! YEAHHHHHHH!" and in celebration I grabbed my electric guitar and played an epic solo while crying happy tears. After my totally epic solo I heard a ding from my chromebook. I checked and Mr Yamane had graded it. My smile faded but my spirit didn't. I was confident, 100% sure I would get a 4. I called Lacey over and she sat down next to me and I clicked on the assignment. I looked at the score and I couldn't help but scream it out as I read it. "A ONE!?!?!?" I was MAD. FUMING. FURIOUS. In a blind fit of rage and I smashed my chromebook and was ripping it to pieces. "HOW DID I GET A ONE???? THIS ISN'T FAIR I PUT MY HEART AND SOUL INTO THIS!" And grabbed the pieces of the chromebook, threw it out the conveniently open window and yelled, "I QUIT! I DON'T CARE ABOUT MY TWO WEEKS NOTICE, I QUIT NOW." I jumped out the window and ran into a forest like a wild animal. Everyone looked confused because you don't put in a two weeks notice for school, you can't quit either. The end.
