It was pretty late into the evening when Wanda and Natasha got back to the trailer. They spent most of their day exploring the small town where they would hopefully soon be moving, and fell more in love with the place with every second they were there.
Karoline hoped she would have an answer for them about their offer within a few days. There were another few couples who had booked viewings so the owners wanted to see how they felt about it before accepting anything formal, though Karoline did say that they sounded pleased when she told them how much the offer was for. They just needed to play the waiting game for the time being.
As promised they did go clothes shopping, and Wanda was able to pick up a few things for herself that felt a bit more her style. She was thankful Vision had been able to move her own money she already had to her new account, Natasha had insisted on paying but Wanda was already feeling bad enough that Natasha would essentially be buying the house completely on her own, provided they got it.
Natasha did want to do something nice for Wanda so compromised by asking Wanda out to dinner. There was a little Italian restaurant by the waterfront, and they decided to go there. They both greatly enjoyed feeling normal again together. If anyone in the town knew who they were, they didn't seem to let on. It was just a good day all around so when they did make it home they were both smiling and feeling positive about the future.
"What's the first thing that you want to do when we get our new house?" Natasha asked as they flopped down on the couch.
"Um," Wanda thought, "Decorate?"
"The decor is that bad, huh?" Natasha laughed.
"No, it's just someone else's right now, and I want it to be fully ours."
"That makes sense," Natasha nodded.
"What about you?"
"I don't really know."
"No ideas?"
"Too many," Natasha smiled warmly.
Wanda reached over, took Natasha's hand and raised it to her lips, kissing the back of her palm.
"I still can't believe this is real," Natasha started, "It just feels like so much has changed, especially in the past few months. After everything that happened with the Accords I really thought I had lost you."
"Me too."
"I feel like that whole time was a blur, but so much happened at the same time."
Wanda shrugged, "I don't really remember much after Germany to be honest."
"Really?"
"I don't know if my mind was just blocking out the time in the Raft, or if it's just that the sedation kept me numb."
"Sedation?"
"Well I was pretty pissed off when I got there, and the collar shocked me but also gave out a gas if the shocks didn't stop me. It kind of took me a bit of time to learn my limits. Turns out they were basically nothing," she laughed dryly.
Natasha and Wanda hadn't really talked much about the Raft, and Natasha didn't really know how to bring it up. She still felt responsible for Wanda being there in the first place, so hearing about how horrible it was only made her feel worse.
"Could you communicate much? I mean with the rest of the guys?"
"Scott and Sam didn't really talk. Clint and I did as best as we could but it was hard with the glass."
"What do you mean?"
"It was mostly soundproof, but Clint did end up teaching me sign language so we could speak."
