Carly pulled a flier off of the wall to get a closer look. Her face lit up as she read what it said.
"Grease!" She yelled as she ran up to Emilia, Jimmy and John who were sitting on a picnic bench under a snow covered tree, although the ground was just wet. "What?" Emilia looked confused. "The musical! It's Grease!" She replied, putting the flier onto the table for the rest of the group to see. "Are you expecting us to audition? This is an art school, we're not exactly the most talented people.." Jimmy gave a worried look. "You know we don't actually have a theatre program, right?" John giggled. Jimmy and Emilia looked at each other in shock. "Really?"
"Yeah, it's mostly just art, not the arts."
"Meh, makes sense." Emilia shrugged.
"We're getting off track! We should all audition, just for fun!" Carly pleaded. Everyone exchanged a glance. "I guess we can try..." Emilia sighed.
Carly cheered and hugged Emilia, who was closest to her. As she did, a tiny pile of snow fell on Jimmy's head. They all looked up at the branch and laughed as he attempted to dry his hair. After a week of preparation, they had all picked their audition songs. They gathered their things and headed out. Carly pulled out her phone from her white handbag and checked the time. "Ten minutes til the auditions start." Collectively, they all began to get nervous. They approached the large heavy doors to the main auditorium. Carly tried to reassure them all. "It's fine guys, the whole room is probably filled of theatre kids-" There were less than a dozen people waiting. "Oh gosh." Jimmy sighed as he panicked inside. Everyone lined up outside and waited for instructions. "Okay everyone," Mr Delainey, the school's only acting professor, stepped out of the door and addressed the process, "one by one you will perform your songs. As this is only a college performance we will not be casting every role - lines will just be given to other characters. You may or may not get a role but if you don't we will need plenty of people to be on the crew (since this school has a really low budget and we need as many minds as possible). So, first on the list is Amanda Carberry." She followed him through the door and after about 5 minutes, stepped out looking very happy. "I can't believe we're wasting our Saturday doing this." Emilia mumbled to Jimmy, who giggled.
After around 20 minutes, Emilia was called. "So, Emilia, what will you be singing today?" Mr Delainey asked. "Uh, Michelle by Sir Chloe.. please." She replied. The music played and she sang the best she could. "That was... interesting," she looked disappointed. "No, it's a good thing, kind of, because we don't get many songs like that in here, usually just basic popular musical numbers or pop songs. Good job." His assistant, a senior, nodded.
"Thank you." She muttered as she left. "How was it?" Carly tried to ask before she was called. "Welp guess I'll talk to you after!" she smiled.Carly sang Angel Eyes by ABBA, John sang Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, then a few people they'd never spoke to performed before eventually, it was Jimmy. "I never realised there were so many people with middle of the alphabet last names!" he said, masking his worry. Once he was called, he said "I really don't want a main part, uh, if that's okay. I'm kinda nervous in-front of audiences but I'd still like to give it a try." Mr Delainey nodded, and Jimmy gave his song and began singing. Cough Syrup by Young The Giant played from the speakers and filled the auditorium. After singing, he left the room expecting nothing to come of the experience. "We should have made our decision about casting by Thursday, so keep an eye out on the pinboard in the main entrance. Thank you all for coming and if you don't get a role come and see us and we'll sort out a backstage task for you. Have a good weekend!"

Thursday rolled around and everyone had almost forgotten about it, except Carly. Remember to meet at our bench so we can check the cast list! She texted as they all did their morning routines. Jimmy, who was brushing his teeth, replied with a thumbs up and a smiling emoji. John liked the message as he put on his shoes and Emilia spoke to her in person after tying her hair back. "I can't believe you're always so optimistic. It's crazy!"
"Yeah, that's what everyone thinks.." she laughed nervously. "Who are you hoping to get?" Emilia asked. "I'm not too sure, but hopefully someone with lines!" She laughed. "I'm not too bothered honestly - I only went cause everyone else went." Emilia replied. "I could tell." They both started giggling as they headed out the door.
