There is no better place for our observations to first fall than our beautiful natural surroundings. We were born into a world that is unparalelled by any other realm. Midgard is the birthplace of Odinn's army and made up of the corpse of Odinn's parent. Ymir is the eldest being, his origins a mystery.
The Allfather had his vision of our world, and out of love for it, slew Ymir and crafted it into a reality. This dishonorable deed was, in its shame, a sacrifice from Odinn to us. When we look up into the clouds, we see Ymir's skull and brain matter. We can only imagine what Ymir looked like in his ancient life, but the way we see him now is beauty too much even for our eyes.
Midgard is an ever-changing realm, whose mysteries have by some been forgotten and rediscovered by science. It is hard for some to make the connection that science is not separate from magic. Our world is an organic one because it was once - and in many ways, still is - alive.
We can see sanctity in every aspect of the natural world - in trees, in wildlife, in mountains...
Of course, there are mysteries in this world that we will never fully understand. There are times at which I envy the boundless wisdom and knowledge of the witch in Voluspa (more on that later).
Yggdrasil itself being a strong mystical tree far larger than any of us can hope to imagine, we can see its image in our trees in Midgard. So many things about this world go unnoticed every day. So many purposeful details are overlooked and unappreciated.
Midgard is our home. It is our palace. These days, in our time of dishonor and forgetfulness of our noble roots, there are constant defecations of Ymir's remains through our fault. A common misconception among tjose seeking to protect the earth is that we must invent ways to do so. For example, solar panels are thought to be a clean energy source and a gentle substitute. However, its artificial substance can never be disposed of safely and is, yes, bad for the environment. There must be no arguments over this matter. No affairs of men can get in the way of us paying our proper respects to Ymir's remains.
Do not forget that our earth is the father (and mother) of the all-father. It deserves our wholehearted respect. Not to mention the fact that destroying its beauty alone is an act that reveals one's blindness. Only a blind man - or an evil one - would draw over a masterpiece.
It is a common and detrimental misconception that man can outperform nature. We are given all the tools we need by Earth and the gods. However, man is proud and full of greed.
We must remember to think of Earth as the corpse of someone revered and important. It is most humbling to consider ourselves mere maggots living off of said corpse.
Midgard is the joiner of fire and ice in the forms of our neighbor realms, Niflheim and Muspelheim. Our realm is directly connected to Asgard, the highest realm and home of the gods, by Bifrost. Our placement in the heavens characterizes the properties of our realm. Men can live in neither fire nor ice, but thrive between the two. The connection through Bifrost helps us to reach the gods.
When seeking to open our eyes to the mystical world, there is no better place to start than our world, Midgard.
For comparison, let us look at J.R.R Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, in which Norse folklore is utilized with outstanding skill. Explaining it better than I ever could, immense credit goes to Jackson Crawford:
