Reader POV

"Doma!" I called out.

He quickly appeared with a towel, concern in his beautiful eyes. "Yes?"

I looked up at him and leaned against the side of the bathhouse pool, sighing. "Come in."

"With pleasure."

Doma slowly removed his clothing and slid into the warm steamy water, hugging me.

"Are you ok?" He asked me as he placed his head on my shoulder softly.

"Why?" I whispered. "After everything that's happened, why are you still here?"

"Silly girl. I love you. I've loved you since I saw you that night seven years ago." Doma turned me around and hugged me tightly. "We could be enemies and my feelings will not change. (y/n), I would tear the world into pieces. Just for you."

I felt his arms wrap tighter around me and sighed. "I see. Would you give your life for me?"

"A thousand times over."

I looked down at our reflection and sighed. "I love you."

I felt his heartbeat accelerate. "Really?"

"Really. You've shown me love that I never knew existed. Seeing you with the children and of course being by my side when Michikatsu and Yoriichi..." I felt searing pains in my heart as I recalled everything that had happened. "I love you, Doma."

Doma's hands touched my face and he closed the gap, kissing me for the very first time.

He broke it apart, staring at me with so many emotions swirling through his eyes. "I love you so much, (y/n). I really do."

"I love you too."

I felt him place his lips on my neck, giving me tingling sensations as he kissed me ever so gently.

"For our eternity. You will be by my side for all our eternity."

ONE MONTH LATER

I tucked Ume and Gyutaro in their bed inside the newly built palace Doma had created.

"Goodnight," I said gently to them and they hummed back to me, too sleepy to say anything more.

Once I was sure they were asleep, I closed their door softly and made my way outside to the balcony.

I leaned against the railing and let out a sigh.

Could I keep these two safe?

I knew for a fact that my sons were split between the boundary of good and evil.

Word had arrived two weeks ago that Yoriichi and Sumiyoshi escaped to the swordsmith village and I knew for a fact that they were not followed-I made certain of it.

"(y/n)?" Doma walked out to the terrace, concern in his eyes. "What are you doing out here? It's quite cold."

"I needed to think," I confessed. "Doma, I know it happened years ago, but do you think I made the right choice in sending my boys away? I feel so hypocritical as I've taken in Ume and Gyutaro."

"You still feel the weight of their loss." Doma hesitantly held my body close to his, offering me comfort. "I'm so sorry, (y/n), but there was no other way."

I looked up at the stars. "I know. I've always wanted to raise my boys, Doma. I love them unconditionally. No matter what happens to them, they are still my flesh and blood."

"Wait a moment..." Doma thought for a moment. "So what you really want is to raise your own child?"

I nodded, holding his arm and resting my head on it. "I want that more than anything. I feel like my path to vengeance...I feel I made a huge mistake. But at the same time, it feels wonderful to know that they're no longer with their abusive father."
