Chapter 20

Two months. That's how long I've been at the palace. I don't know if the Elite will come soon, but Chrassity was just eliminated. There are 19 of us left. Apparently King Maxon chose his Elite at 19 girls. I could feel my stomach churning. I will admit I have a feeling I will be an Elite. I have a feeling Alyssa will too. She's plays the part of a charmer and a snake. Sweet yet venomous. Nice yet deadly. He obviously didn't see that side of her and seeing what happened last time I'm not going to try to tell him. I sit on my bed thinking, but a loud thump wakes me from my daydream. I open my door and outside Ilena is crying.

"Ilena what happened!" I said with worry.

"Ahren he-he...kicked me out." She says the last part in a whisper. Ilena, sweet, beautiful, funny Ilena is gone. Suddenly tears reach my eyes, but have angry mixed in them. She saw me and continued.

"We were on a date and he seemed awfully quiet, he always does. At the end he broke the news." Ilena your a really sweet girl, but a don't feels spark. I'm really sorry, I really do hate doing this, she quoted him.

"I understand he can only marry one girl it just hurts. I guess it's what I sighed up for." It's true. This is what we sign up for. I wrapped Ilena in a hug.

"I'm gonna miss you so much." This was our goodbye.

"I will too, please write me." Her eyes were red and puffy.

"Of course."

The next morning I woke up with a sense if loneliness. 18 girls. Through breakfast I was distracted. The news about Ilena was broken and the smirk on Alyssa's face almost made me laugh. She couldn't of made it more obvious. How does Ahren not notice it?

"Kathleen!" Lyla was waving her hand in front of my face.

"What, sorry. I spaced out." She playfully rolled her eyes.

"I can see that." I gave the best 'laugh' I could muster.

"You okay?" She asked.

No.

"I guess." Just then Isabella walked in alongside Ahren with a huge smile plastered on her face.

"Hi," She chirped to Lyla and I as she plopped down in her seat. She took a look around the room and her expression turned worried.

"Where Ilena?" She asked. Lyla and I shared a glance and I opened my mouth.

"She-she left." Her eyes got sad.

"Oh..."

"So how was your date?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"It was good, we went horseback riding." As she speaks she lacks her perkiness. In a way I feel bad for her. She really like Ahren, but I don't know how he feels about her. She doubts the fact he does. In a selfish way I want her to get into the Elite. I suspect Lyla will. Ahren had been paying more attention to her recently. It's like he's hinting who will be chosen. Alyssa, Lyla, Piper, Me. Alexis too. This selection had gone by so fast, but I feel it's far from over. Last selection there was only six Elite and it went on for a while. I needed a distraction. I knew exactly what. I walked up the stairs into the the dance room. When I got there I stopped. Through the small glass pane I could see Ahren twirling Alexis around heads back laughing. I didn't move. He had all his rights but for some reason I felt my heart sink. I wanted him to love me. I want to win. For the first time in this competition I'm certain of myself. All the doubts and worries have gone away. I'm certain that I want to be queen.

Charlotte tightened the corset of my dress. It was strapless with a sweetheart neckline. It got tight at my waist, but the flowed to the floor in a ring. Sparkles adorned it from top to bottom adding a beautiful touch.

"This is amazing guys," I praised.

Delilah covered my eyes in summery white shadow along with winged eyeliner. She added blush to my cheeks and dangly crystals to my ears.

"This is perfect." They smiled and escorted me out.

When I entered the dinning room everyone stopped and stared. I have a small smile and scurried to my seat. Heat filled my cheeks. After my little 'moment' worried filled my brain. Was my dress trailed up, my makeup smudged?

"Ladies may I have your attention," the prince called. All my attention diverted to his bright eyes and professional smile.

"This selection has gone by much faster than others and at 18 girls we are bound to have the Elite chosen soon. Before I chose the remaining ten we shall have one last task. As a Queen you have to be able to plan well. So instead of me asking you on a date you will ask me on a date that you have planned yourselves."

I heard mixed reactions from the other selected, some "what!", some whispers, and even a laugh. True to my nature I start thinking about different ideas. I need something unique, something that no one else would do. That's the moment it clicks. I know exactly what I'm going to do.

I write everything down in a notebook. I heard there was a roof so I planned to take Ahren there. I was slightly concerned that there would be some rule I wasn't allowed on the roof so I was playing it by luck.

Dear selected Ladies, the note directed to us read.

The prince has asked you to knock on his door when ready for your date. Because of conflict there had been scheduled times for each of you. Please notify me if you would like to make any changes.

Silvia

I looked at the schedule attached to the note and scanned down the list of names. Kathleen Dormer: 4:00. I ran to my closet. There was no time to ring for maids. I slipped on a a gold day dress, struggling to tie the bow at the back. After I partially succeeded I finger combed my pre-curled hair. After slipping on random flats I rushed to the third floor. I took a deep breath and walked towards his door. Instead of a closed door, I saw Ahren's lips pressed to Pipers's.

A/N: Okay so wattpad finally worked!!! I don't really know what to say, but... enjoy the chapter!!
