Upon returning to my apartment, I began to put my plan together. First, I will text John and Margert, telling them I'm planning to turn Nat down on the offer. Next, I will follow Nat into his apartment, knowing he would love to brag about having slept with someone in it. It would mean I would be putting my life into his hands though, so I'll be on heightened alertness. Next, I would have a pleasant long conversation with him and let him know I am not interested in such an act. He being as polite as he is, would accept and let me leave. But aha! I'll use my freaky vampire powers to sneak under the doorway like a shadow. I'll make sure that the doors and windows are locked so there's no denying that it was an accident. I'll then sneak out and turn invisible in my apartment with the lights out so everyone thinks I wasn't in the building. It's brilliant! As brilliant as the vampire that came up with it.
I texted Nat and told him we could hang out in his apartment since mine was in no condition for guests. Once he agreed, I then turned and texted John and Margret and let them know I was preparing to turn Nat down. They both sent shrug emojis and said good luck. I then made sure Rexy was in her enclosure, well-fed and asleep. I didn't want to take any chances. Someone was going to die tonight, and it wasn't going to be me.
Waltzing over to Nat's room, I spotted poor old Robert moping back to his home. Poor guy, he didn't even greet me. No matter. I don't need to worry about him. Nat's room was far enough away and he was isolated from the rest of the tenants. No one would suspect it was me.
I knock at the door wearing a simple graphic tee and jeans, waiting for Nat to open the door. When he finally did, he gestured me in and I followed in. Immediately I was hit with the smells of every legal drug there was all at once. As a vampire, I couldn't get sick, but it was nauseating, "Ugh! Nat! What the heck?"
"Oh sorry. I got bored waiting for you."
"Is this what you do all day?"
"Kinda. I have other jobs ya know."
"Right." It was time to get things started. I sat at the table with was surprisingly clean, except for a bit of residue, and looked into Nat's eyes, as red as they are, "Look, Nat. I think you got it all wrong."
"What?"
"I'm not interested in your offer. I didn't know how to tell you in the breakroom and I'm sorry for stringing you along."
"Are you, like... Not interested in sex at all?"
"No no, I just don't want to do it with you. Or with anyone. It's very difficult to explain. Truth be told, I always watched romance from afar and never understood it. Well, I have, but it's always changing. One minute it's one thing, the next it's another. I'm still trying to figure it out."
"Ah. No, I get it, Harley. Figuring that stuff out can be confusing, but I'm glad that you're open to me about it."
"Yeah, no problem, dude." I start to get up, "Welp! I should go back home. Rexy gets upset if I don't feed her."
"No, I understand." Nat gets up and shows me the door. "Oh uh... One more thing. Silver Knight."
"What?" I turn my head to face him. Initially, he had a serious look on his face, but soon softened.
"Oh, nothing." He rubbed the back of his neck, clearly embarrassed.
I didn't pay it too much mind. In the moment. I returned home to think about my next step. It would be smart to wait an hour before continuing but... What was that about a silver knight? I had never heard of it before. Whatever, it's fine. I have to put my plan into motion.
I waited and waited and waited for midnight to strike, so I could hide in the shadows and no cameras would be able to pick up my supernatural activity. After a period of what felt like an eternity, the lights were out. Now's my chance.
