"Can't you give me even one little hint about where we're going?"
Pha smiled to himself at Yo's sulky tone. "You'll understand the moment we arrive, baby. Be patient."
Yo glowered half-heartedly at him, still too sleepy to really get mad about anything. "Do remember I detest surprises. If I don't like it, you're sleeping on the couch until the twins are born."
"This is a surprise I know you'll like. What did you talk about when we took a bath after your prenatal massage?"
"...you mean before Love was born??" Yo rolled his eyes. "Are you kidding? I was half asleep then. Do you seriously expect me to remember what I said?"
Pha just smiled.
Yo huffed and settled in his seat. If Pha was going to be all mysterious and shit, then Yo wasn't going to talk to him. A quick glance in the backseat told Yo Love had fallen asleep from the motion of the car. If she had been awake, her cute babbling would have filled the car, and she would have been playing with one of her stuffed toys nestled in the car seat with her.
As they drove, Yo noticed they were heading to the suburban area, where people lived in actual houses and not just condos or apartments. He perked as they pulled into the driveway of a traditional-looking Thai house, a middle-aged woman waiting for them with a smile.
Wait a second...
Pha was already out and opening Yo's door. "You coming?"
"P'Pha, what..." Yo's eyes trailed over the house, drinking in each detail hungrily. "Are you serious??"
"We're house hunting, baby."
Yo gave a happy squeal at Pha's confirmation, throwing himself in Pha's arms. The older guy laughed. "We're buying a house??"
Yo's delight filled Pha with warmth. "Yes, baby. Are you happy?"
"So much! Come on!" Yo grabbed Pha's hand and tried to drag him towards the house. "Let's go look!"
"We should probably bring Love with us, Yo," Pha chuckled.
Yo immediately turned around to get the baby. He was soon back by Pha's side, Love sleepily rubbing at her eyes and blinking at the strange lady with her parents.
The excitement didn't die, even though the first house wasn't what Yo had envisioned he and his family living in. A traditional Thai house, with no modern technology except for bathrooms and a fridge. Yo gave Pha a 'you've-got-to-be-kidding-me' stare. The Realtor led them out of the house, assuring them she had better ones to show them.
By the third house, Yo had called in "back-up": Ming, Kit, Win, Saint, Forth and Beam. Saint and Win took over looking after the kids while the others looked at the houses. Narissa was supposed to come get the babies, but something had happened at her daughters' school, and she wasn't able to make it.
