Never Here- Chapter 1.

Rain drops left watery streaks across my snow pale face as I waited. He said he'd meet me at midnight. It was now twenty five to one.

Drawing my tattered cloak around my shoulders, I thrust my right arm out into the empty road in front of me. I was tired of waiting for him, I could send him an owl once I checked into the Leaky Cauldron to tell him where I am, he won't care; he never cares. Within seconds, the tall purple bus was parked before me and a spotty young man hopped down onto wet pavement. "Thanks for choosin' to ride with the Night Bus. So, where'd you be goin'?" He greeted me in a shockingly squeaky voice.

"Just take me to the Leaky Cauldron and step on it. I'm already late." I gruffly replied, lugging my heavy wooden trunk up the bus steps.

"Jeez, whose twisted your wand? Prices 'ave change by the way. 'Tis 14 sickles just for the bus ride, or I can throw in some hot chocolate for 1 galleon." The tall bus conductor asked as he followed me onboard.

"Rip off." I muttered, but threw a solid gold coin at him regardless. Slumping into a frayed chair near the back, I took in my surroundings. I'd been on the night bus only once before, three years ago when I first started at Hogwarts, but the bus was still exactly the same. Three floors, lined with a few grey seats and rickety beds with spiral staircases leading up to each level. The most extraordinary feature wasn't the drunken old wizard lying on the stairs, the little red-head surrounded by multicoloured purring cats, or the magical floating crystal chandelier, but the way the bus seemed to remain stationary as the world moved past it. It was the most remarkable sensation, something you had to experience to fully understand. Something nobody in my family would ever be able to feel; never. Both my parents are muggles and so is the rest of my family. They were shocked when I received my acceptance letter, but it made perfect sense. I'd always been different from the other children, in ways that were unexplainable until my eleventh birthday. One time, whilst on a school field trip to a particularly unremarkable nature reserve, I toppled into a lake, and as I slipped beneath the murky surface, I heard my spiteful class members laughing at me. Burning with embarrassment, I submerged; completely dry. I was scared. Why? How? Nobody knew. But, now it all makes sense. I, April Jackson, am a Witch.
