"You can't control yourselves," Laff said. Both Nadwe and Muffin could see, sense even, a strange, sarcastic satisfaction in Laff's eyes. Though his voice had no sign of it. "it's not good for anyone. Yourselves, me, the others. At least try to work on that."
Anger stirred up in Nadwe. Muffin quietly and quickly whispered, "Try not to get mad, or at least show it. He'll use it against us both." Nadwe sighed, listening to Muffin. The thought of why Muffin would sound serious passed through Nadwe's mind, but he just shook it off.
Later, Muffin and Nadwe (mostly Muffin) decided to take a short detour through the forest.
Muffin skipped about picking up flowers, weeds and twigs and braiding them into his hair. Muffin offered to put some flowers in Nadwe's hair or on his top hat. "Why not." Nadwe murmured. Muffin gave a cheery grin and grabbed some herbs and flowers.
Nadwe smiled softly as Muffin twined flowers and herbs in Nadwe's hair. "Oh yeah!" squeaked Muffin, startling Nadwe. "Sorry-" "It's okay." "Well," Muffin pulled some goggles, a top hat, and two pins out of a small pouch, "here." Said Muffin, handing Nadwe a pin and top hat. The pin had a bat on it. "Thanks!" Said Nadwe, actually meaning it.
Muffin put the goggles atop his head, then grabbed the remaining pin. The pin had two deer antlers on it. "Where'd you get this from?" "The church." "Really?" "Yeah! It was easy!" "Even with Laff...?" Muffin's face darkened. Nadwe noticed the small bruise under Muffin's left eye. Muffin blinked and sighed, "I-I'm sorry-" Nadwe muttered, feeling bad.
...
"It's okay." Muffin finally sighed. "No it isn't..." Nadwe muttered. "..." "I mean, I know he did that." Nadwe motioned towards Muffin's bruise, "y-yeah. He did..." Muffin stammered, clearly uncomfortable.
Nadwe hugged Muffin tightly, "It's not right. No matter what.." "...I guess it is.."
