Vale's P.O.V.
"I'm looking for my mother... Dolara Palpatine."
I say my mother's name, making the older woman's face stiffen instantly and the man beside her stares at me in surprise. The boy, not a day over twenty, scrunches his face at my words. The woman then glances around our surroundings before mumbling in alarm.
"You shouldn't have come here."
"I know..." I spit out in an annoyed tone and raise a single eyebrow at her. "But, I did... Mother."
Smiling thinly at her, I realize just now I was expecting a different reaction from her. I expected a surprised reaction but see a worried expression on her face. Sighing and scanning the road behind me, the man then speaks up in a cautious tone.
"You must be Valera Palpatine."
"That, I am." I answer him before waving a hand at my Nighthunter. "... And this is Angel."
"I'm Dolia's husband, Carern Veer. This is our son, Evander.... And our daughter, Genevieve, is somewhere inside." The man then introduces them slowly before glancing at his wife anxiously. Scratching the back of his neck, he sighs, not sure what to say. "Um... I'm sure you have questions... Why don't you join us for dinner? Then we'll talk-"
"Carern."
My mother speaks up sternly in a warning tone. He lets out a breath and sends her a sympathetic expression. In the next second, my mother stiffens her posture before meeting my eyes and saying in an abrupt voice.
"Come on in... But... Angel will have to stay outside."
"Of course."
I hum out in an innocent tone while glancing at Angel. Her head tilts as if she doesn't understand the tension in the force. When I look back at my mother, I raise an eyebrow, waiting for her to escort me into the house.
Watching her trying to hold back her emotions, she spins around and storms into the house. Looking at their home, I assume the surrounding acres are theirs. A forest surrounds the grassland around the home. The house looks like a home in Naboo; beautiful and colorful flowers are everywhere.
My mother looks older than I remember, but I expected her to be. Her blond hair has grey streaks in it; it's wavy and to her waist. My eyes pull away from my mother when I see her husband nod to me respectfully and wave a hand at the front door while speaking up.
"It's nice to finally meet you, Valera." Not responding to him, I follow him onto his porch while he mumbles to his son. "Go set the table."
"... But, dad... Who is she?"
Their son, Evander, chuckles in confusion while glancing at me and his father. Smiling awkwardly at the men, I wait to see how my mother's husband wants to handle this. I watch Carern send his son a warning expression before answering.
"She's your half sister."
~Half An Hour Later~
"You're a Jedi Knight... Aren't you?"
Genevieve blurts out while glancing sheepishly at me from across the table. Carern and Dolara glance at one another while quietly eating what's on their plates. Their son, Evander, is beside Genevieve, whose eyes keep darting to everyone at the table.
This has been the most uncomfortable dinner I've eaten, and I know exactly why. My mother has not said a word to me since I've come inside; she won't even look at me. Her husband, Carern, introduced me to their kids as their half sister but said nothing else about me.
