The Cool Nerd : Chapter 16

Junior Year : Day 46

Lassly's P.O.V

No sign of Nicole, just wanted to let that out.

“Do you wanna come tonight?” Caden asked. “I’m going to the movies with Drew. I just thought you might like to tag along.”

I felt a pang of guilt shooting across my stomach. Why was I feeling guilty? No idea.

“Why do you want me to come?”

Caden shoved his hands in his pocket. “Drew’s inviting someone and I’m inviting someone.”

I smiled, “Why do you want that someone to be me?”

I stole a glance at Caden who was shoving some textbooks in his lockers. I waited for him to respond but he didn’t. He just continued playing with his locker door.

After a moment of silence, I finally spoke up, “Why do you want that someone to be me?” I repeated. Caden stared at me, his eyes staring deeply into mine. ‘Eyes are the windows to the soul,’ totally.

“I don’t know. You’re my favorite girl friend,” he said.

I flushed deep shades of red.

“I mean a girl that’s my friend, not the other way around. I mean, like that would ever happen. No way, right? Just can you please, do you wanna come?”

I rolled my eyes at his long ramble. It wasn’t long really, but what the heck right?

“Sure, I’ll go, as long as your girlfriend doesn’t mind.”

I cringed when I said girlfriend. It still felt awkward every time I pictured Caden with another girl. I’m probably the stupidest dork on the planet. In love with two guys, how cliché is that? That’s totally unoriginal; something that only tends to happen in movies and books, only, this isn’t a book. In fact, it’s supposed to be the story of my life. That too, I’m in love with the school’s hot stuff then the new guy comes along and makes me fall for him, totally unoriginal.

“She won’t mind,” Caden said, flashing me a smile.

Then, the bell rang, snapping me out of whatever I was doing. It was only then that I realized the close proximity of our bodies. “I guess I should head to class,” I mumbled, chuckling nervously.

Caden nodded, slowly backing away. “Bye Drew.”

I stared at him dumbfounded. “Drew?” I asked softly.

He instantly realized what he had said and stared at me, his eyes piercing deeply in mine apologetically.

“I’m sorry Lassly. I meant bye, bye Lassly.”

I nodded. “Bye Caden.”

I was thinking about being rude and saying, ‘Bye Josh,’ but I didn’t. The only reason for that was because I’d feel stupid later on and be embarrassed like a total fool. This is Caden we’re talking about. After Josh, he’s the only one that’s had an effect on me. I mean, he is one of the only guys I’d talked to but I don’t think I’d give myself to anyone that easily.

Caden turned back and smiled at me one last time. That was all he said before we both headed towards our own directions, or should I say classes?
