2016 | HYDRA BASE — Here was little Ariel. Once again trapped in the Hydra base along with Bucky & Wanda. The scientists, doctors and Strucker did not give up and tried to obediently carry out their valuable experiments again. At that exact moment, Ariel was sitting in front of a table, in a soundproof room, with the others watching her through a spherical and soundproof pane of glass. They had realized that their precious Siren might be even more powerful without mind control than with it, so they wanted to explore their theory. "You see the glass on the table?" Strucker's hoarse voice asked through the ceiling speakers. "We want to see you break it without mind control."
"And if i don't?" She refused. She was tired of doing Hydra's bidding. Every time she screamed, she felt weakened. But since trying to break out, she just felt miserable... she thought she had let them all down. Also, every day she was injected with more and more meds or serum, salt water and God knows what else. She felt horrible. And she was in pain. So much pain. "Then, Barnes, may enjoy a few laps in your favorite chair." He explained while Ariel was digging her nails into her palms in anger. She knew exactly what they would do to him: some electric shocks, mind control, just brutal beatings.
She exhaled in anger and looked coldly at Strucker through the window. "It's your choice, my love." He replied before she let out another last breath and shattered the glass with an effortless scream. Unconsciously, Arielle squeezed her eyes shut in pain as she grabbed her cheek. A shard of glass landed narrowly below her right eye, leaving a small, delicate cut. She took her hand away and stared trembling at the glistening red blood on her fingertips. It might have been only her own blood... but the thought of the blood of innocents on her fingers scared her.
"Well done, I knew I could count on you." Strucker complimented her. "It hurts!" she said, grabbing her neck, her eyes detesting. "It's normal, the salt water in the serum is attacking your vocal cords. It will enhance your abilities." He lectured her, with not a single drop of pity. "Agent Rumlow, bring the ugly creature inside her cell." The scientist ordered. He did as he was told and placed a covered cage on the table right in front of Ariel. He could feel her disgusted look on his burned face. Of course it was Agent Brock Rumlow, torturing her, still extremely angry at Captain Rogers for what happened in Washington and now amused to take it out on his friends. "He told me about you." she whispered angrily at Rumlow as he stood across from her. "You'll be sorry."
"I don't think so..." he grinned back confidently. "You know, you can scream as loud as you want, Princess. But your dear Captain won't be able to hear you." she could've killed him right on the spot. One singular scream. But she didn't, she wouldn't dare to risk harming Bucky and Wanda. So she decided to drop it. Karma will get him eventually, she thought. „I can try. Seemed like it worked out for you, when that building dropped on you." she just said. He let out a little laugh, shaking his head. „I liked you better when you were too scared to open your damn mouth." he said, before disappearing.
The cage on the table revealed an innocent little bunny. No! No! No! No, She thought to herself, shaking her head. "You see the rabbit?" came Strucker's voice, but he got no answer. "I think you know what to do."
"I can't..." she murmured. "I- I'm out of strength." she said in a weary voice. She tried to make up every lie just to save this little bunny. "And I- . . . I don't know how." Glassy-eyed, she looked pleadingly through the pane. Strucker was on the far left, Agent Rumlow in the middle, and Agent Ward close by, but not one of them spared her. They wanted a show. He sighed in disappointment. "Get Maximoff here."
"NOOO!" Ariel exclaimed, holding out a hand. "I'll do it." she sighed with faltering breaths. Just don't hurt Wanda, she whispered to herself. Don't hurt her. She looked into the innocent eyes of the animal that hadn't done anything to her at all. She tried not to shed a tear. It broke her heart, that they wanted her to have to take the life of this poor, helpless creature. She loved animals.
She didn't want to see the scene playing out in front of her. So with her eyes closed, she averted her gaze from her victim and attempted a small but loud scream. She then opened her eyes shakily and looked at the frightened and whining rabbit, with brown fur. It ran around the cage like crazy, trying to escape. "Again!" Strucker commanded dissatisfied. Out of breath and in pain, a slightly louder and longer scream left her throat a second time. But this time, when she opened her eyes, she saw how the bunny rapidly banged its head against the bars and tried to hurt itself banging his skull in. It finally stopped when it was completely still again.
I'm sorry, she whispered with watery eyes. Ariel grabbed her neck in pain and felt a sting. She hated herself for doing something so horrible to the little thing and it made her heart ache as well. She was exactly what Hydra wanted, a monster.
Maybe it was her heart, her conscience, her exhaustion or just her body giving out at that precise moment because next she fell forward a little and her vision went black again.
Thank god it's over.
