They had travelled through the small towns surrounding the city before finally making it. They trotted slowly on their two horses, Rick had a bag of guns and ammo strapped to his back while Artemis had her two supply bags. They kept quiet, not wanting to draw the attention of any walkers, the only sounds were the soft trots from the horses as they scoped out the area.
It was chaotic, there were flipped over cars everywhere. Dead bodies in vehicles and laying next to the side of the road. They passed a bus and a few walkers began to pile out of it. The two horses were instantly freaked out but the two riders were quick to calm them down before they began to make too much noise
"Steady there girl, its okay," Artemis commented softly as she stroked the mane of the horse that she was riding
"It's okay, its nothing that you can't out run," Rick told the horses before they sped up a little bit, not wanting to be near the walkers. They kept on going throughout the town, looking for survivors or anything that could be of use to them. Suddenly the soft hum of a helicopter was heard.
"Hyah!" Rick exclaimed to the horse and the horse neighed loudly and Rick began to ride after the helicopter that was flying over head
"Rick! Shit Rick, you idiot!" Artemis scowled as she looked around, there were now a bunch of walkers coming out of their hide outs due to that ruckus that Rick was now making. Artemis rolled her eyes before quickly racing after him, nowing that he had just gotten them into some deep ass shit.
They rounded a corner and stopped quickly, hundreds of walkers were coming after them, their ugly moans reverberated off the walls of Atlanta, sending rows of shivers down their spines, "shit! C'mon!" She motioned to rick and the two of them quickly turned the horses around and rode back down the street that they had come from, already knowing that there were going to be more walkers this way but there was nothing that they could do.
They only got about another 100 meters before they were cut off again, this time having no way to go, "oh shit," Rick commented loudly. The horses began to freak out as the walkers got closer and closer to them, they began to kick and jump as the arms of the dead reached out for them.
"We aren't gonna get out of here with the horses Rick, we gotta make a run for it and hope that the horses will distract them," Artemis quickly told him. She felt sick to the stomach at the very thought of the poor horses being used as bait and then being ripped apart by the walkers but she knew that it was what had to be done
The horses were suddenly pulled to the ground by the walkers, giving the two living people no other choice than to run but as the zombies backed on to them, they couldn't even do that. The two of them looked around in panic from their spots on the floor and then noticed a tank near by, they gave one last sorrowful look to the bags of guns and supplies before quickly crawling under the tank. The zombies fell to the ground and began to crawl after them.
Rick reached down and grabbed his gun and began to shoot the ones crawling under the tank while Artemis slashed at them with her sword. "Shit shit shit this is ba-" Artemis started but then noticed the hole above them in the tank. She grabbed onto Ricks shirt and pulled the two of them up into the tank quickly, slamming the door shut just before the walkers got in too.
Rick backed away from the hole in panic while Artemis just sat next to it, trying to catch her breath. She looked around the tank, there was a dead soldier in the tank. She watched as Rick, who was sitting next to the soldier reached over and grabbed the gun of the soldier. Suddenly, the soldier began to move and inhuman groans fell from its mouth as it reached over to rick.
A cry of shock fell from Ricks mouth as he quickly pointed the tip of the gun up to the walkers head and pulled the tigger. Artemis and Rick quickly covered their ears and groaned in pain from the loud noise, both of them falling to the ground as their ears rung and their vision went blurry.
"Nice one genius," she groaned out through the pain before hearing the sound of Lou's thumps reverberating off the walls of the tank. She looked up, noticing that the hatch on the ceiling was still wide open and if the walkers made it to the top of the tank, which she knew was going to happen, then they would climb in and kill them if she didn't hurry up and go shut it.
She let out a huff of annoyance before forcing her legs to move, pushing her body up and making her way over to the top hatch of the tank. She climbed the ladder, pulling herself out of the top of the tank, looking around she noticed all the walkers that were extremely close to the hatch, she quickly grabbed the hatch and pulled it closed.
The sounds of hands thumping angrily on the hatch could be heard over the small grunts from the 17 year old girl who sat down, leaning her back against the wall, her hearing and eyesight finally going back to normal, "our best bet is to wait and hope that something ends up drawing them away," she told rick with a sigh
Rick grabbed his gun and checked the load out to see how many bullets he had left, "how long could that take?" He asked her softly, rubbing his sweaty forehead on his hand which was clutching his gun tightly
"Days?" The girl muttered out, "hopefully before we die of dehydration," the girl chuckled softly, trying to make a joke of the situation even though there was nothing funny about it... it was just her way to deal with all the emotions that were coursing through her head right now, "all we can do is hope thou-"
She fell silent as the soft sound of radio cracking was heard through the tank. Artemis and Rick shot their heads up and over towards the source of sound, "hey you... dumbass and girl with the cool katana."
Rick and Artemis turned to look at each other in shock... he had to be talking to them right?
"Yeah you two in the tank. Are you cozy in there?" The voice asked them and a chuckle of happiness fell from the girls mouth
"looks like we wont be waiting days after all," Artemis said happily. Rick looked over at the young girl and wondered how long she had been out there by herself and what she had gone through. Even though he had just met her, he could tell that she was a good person.
