Anti Sides High School AU

Introduction

     Disney music echoed through the house as Roman Prince cooked breakfast for himself and his son, Mephisto. "Can we listen to something else?" Mephisto murmured as he came down the stairs, wearing dark red pyjamas and black dragon slippers. He had dark circles under his emerald eyes, a bedhead of brown hair, and a grumbling voice.

     Roman couldn't hear him, as he was singing Hakuna Mattata at the top of his lungs. Mephisto huffed and told Alexa to stop playing, earning an offended sound from his father. "Alexa, play Everybody Loves Me by OneRepublic." Mephisto called as his father shook his head and moved the eggs around with a spatula. "Some people just don't appreciate masterpieces." Roman huffed. "Some people have been hearing 'masterpieces' every morning since they were twelve, and don't feel like having a headache on the first day of senior year." Mephisto retorted.

     Roman rolled his eyes, sighing as he handed Mephisto a plate. "I can't believe my own son doesn't like Disney." Roman scoffed. "I like Disney, I just don't feel like it right now." Mephisto muttered. "Fine. Then let's play something new. Alexa, play Fresh Eyes by Andy Grammar." Roman decided. "I can live with that." Mephisto agreed before resuming his meal.

     "So, how are things with you and Grabriel?" Roman questioned as he peeled the crust off of his toast. Mephisto took the crust and ate it, since unlike his father he actually liked the crust. "Fine. I don't know why you'd ask about him specifically, though. I have other friends." Mephisto muttered defensively. "Right, because you totally don't have a crush on him or anything." Roman teased. "Exactly." Mephisto stated firmly, giving his father a warning glance. Roman, of course, only laughed.

     "Keep bugging me about Gabriel, and I'll trash talk Disney in public." Mephisto muttered. "You wouldn't dare." Roman gasped, holding a hand to his chest as if betrayed. "I would. I could even make an account on Instagram just for analyzing all of Disney's flaws." Mephisto informed him. "Fine, I give." Roman surrendered, waving a napkin in the air. "I will not bring up your totally not crush again." He promised, holding up his left hand while his right one crossed his heart. Mephisto simply nodded.

     He stayed silent for the remainder of breakfast, listening as his father chattered about work. After gossiping about some of the antics and drama going on with his co workers, he began debating on what role to audition for, since his Theatre was putting on The Wizard of Oz.

     "The Wizard probably suits me most, but he only has a few scenes." Roman sighed thoughtfully. "Maybe you should play the Cowardly Lion. I think it'd be a perfect role for you." Mephisto suggested with a smug expression. Roman made another offended sound as Mephisto stood up and took his dish to the kitchen to wash it.

     "Now, you listen here. You can't just insult Disney and then my honour in one sitting." Roman declared as Mephisto ran the water and washed the dish. "The Scarecrow then." Mephisto suggested, his smirk only growing. "Slandered by my own kin." Roman muttered with a shake of the head.

     Mephisto had a response to that, but as he did with many retorts, he kept it to himself. There were many things Mephisto knew he could use to easily win an argument with his father, but their arguments weren't serious. They were playful. Besides, the comebacks he had were personal, and really ones he shouldn't think to use in the first place. Maybe he thought about them because it still bothered him 

     -  "Alexa, play Heaven in Our Headlights by Hedley." Roman stated, used to Mephisto getting lost in thought. -

     See, despite Roman being his biological father, (due to a relationship Roman had when he was still in the closet) Mephisto had only been living with Roman since he was twelve. Before that, his biological mother and Roman had put him into the Foster System. They were young and weren't ready to be parents yet. Coincidentally, Mephisto was raised by Janus, a foster parent that used to go to school with Roman. Mephisto was only able to find out about Roman due to River, a family friend that turned out to be his cousin.
