Cas POV

At art school you learn a lot of new techniques, methods, skills and how to express your emotions and views as a physical object. And while you're there all there is, is creativity. What they don't teach you is what comes after.

After coffee with Marcus I kept looking for a job, because god do I need one.

I was walking along the street and I saw a fairly old looking book shop. The kind that sells books but also a few little things in the window. It was cute so I went in to see if there were any positions available.

'Hello' I call out because no one is behind the desk.

'Oh hello dear, I'm just moving some boxes around' an elderly woman said. Her white hair was coming out of the bun and she definitely looked too old to be hauling those book filled boxes around.

'Let me help you' I rush over to grab the box from her as she starts to drop it.

'Thank you sweetheart' she said rubbing her back.

'Um, I was wondering if you need any help around here? I'm really reliable and hardwo....'

'That would be fantastic! I've been meaning to put a sign up but I just haven't had the time. Ever since Jack went of to uni, oh Jack's my grandson, I've had to rearrange the shop by myself and I know that's no excuse but I'm getting on you know and i'm not a strong as I used to be. I'll need you to help me with that if you could. Just organising the shelves and such. The shop doesn't look like much but I have a quite a few loyal customers so it does get quite busy in here, especially when I'm by myself.'

'That would be great! I'd love to work here!' I say 'But you might need to know that I work all day shifts at Laurey's on the weekends so I won't be available then. I hope that won't be a problem...' I trail off.

'No thats fine, we're closed on Sundays and it's only a half day on Saturday so you wouldn't be needed anyway' she said, 'I'll probably only need you from 11 to 5, because thats the busiest times, its a bit unconventional but oh well. The pay is £8.50 an hour.'

My eyes widen, in shock, wow, I get £6.50 at Laurey's!

'Oh is that not enough... I can-'

'No that's perfect thank you'

'Okay so if you come in tomorrow that would be lovely dear'.

'Sure thanks Mrs...'

'Oh sorry! It's Rose Martin dear'

'Mrs Martin, lovely to meet you, my name is Cas Edwards'

'Okay Cas I'll see you tomorrow then'

'Bye!' I say walking to the door.

'Yes!' I fist pump the air and do a little victory dance. I can't believe my luck! This kind of thing never happens to me! I'm the kind of guy that falls over nothing and accidently walks into posts when I'm not looking.

I need to call Max! Max is my best friend in the whole world, we used to date back in art school but we decided we were better off friends. I also wasn't ready for a really serious commitment so I didn't want to get too invested in the relationship. It's a good thing he felt the same way because I don't know what I would do without him.

'Maxie!!' I shout down the phone.

'God! Cas! I told you not to do that!' he replied.

'Sorrrrrrrryyyyyyy' I whine.

'I guess I forgive you. Now what did you want to tell me?' He asks.

'I got a job!!! I can finally buy some more art stuff and food!' I say.

'You know I would loan you some money' he says, suddenly serious. What I didn't mention is that Maxie is quite rich. Well he says his parents are but we all know that that means he is to.

'And you know I can't accept that, I need to make my own way' I say.

'Yeah, yeah. Are you heading to the studio now?' he asks.

'Yep, I'll be there in 15.' I reply. Maxie shares the studio with me, he could pay for his own but we both like the company and it means that we can help each other and judge each other's work.

'Okay see you then, bye' and he hangs up.

Rude! I didn't even get to say goodbye! I look up at the sky and the clouds are starting to look grey and intimidating so I start to walk a bit faster. 10 minutes later I get to the door of the studio. I walk in and go up the stairs to my storage/studio area. Its not that big but Maxie installed a little kitchenette thing in one corner so we could make tea and feed ourselves if we are working on a piece for a really long time. I didn't want him to pay for it, but he said that he needs it so who am I to stop him.

Maxie is already sitting on the pull out sofa bed when I get there he's shirtless and he's reading some classic that he always get inspiration for his paintings from. He's more of a painter and I'm more of a sculptor but sometimes we use each other's materials and dabble in other areas. I'll tell you now. Max is definitely a sight to see. He's got the washboard abs and long brown hair that looks like he's run his hands through it all day. Actually he probably has because I can see a bit of yellow paint at the top of his head. All in all he is gorgeous. He looks up and his brown eyes are smiling and he has a massive grin on his face.

'I'm so happy for you! We should go out tonight! My treat! There's this new club opening this weekend and we should defintily check it out!' he says. He jumps up and gives me a hug and I return it just as tight.

'Yeah I can't wait. Its at this cute little book store like 20 mins away. I bet there are loads of hidden treasures in there for you to find! I'll have a look. I start tomorrow.'

'Awesome!' he says, 'so yes for this weekend?'

'Yeah okay, but it doesn't need to be youre treat'

'I don't mind, it's a congratulatory present'

'Okay! Thanks' I clap my hands. 'I'm itching to experiment with my new glazes so I'm gonna go mix some up.'
