Happily disturbing her Mexican vacation, Alex informs his girlfriend, Elizabeth, that's All Time Low is supporting Avril Lavigne on three Canadian nights of her new tour.
The best part, she's playing her town.
He's practically inciting me to wax about my recent Mexican séjour, what with the way he greets me on our Skype call.
That is, I'm met with a bright-eyed, fully smiling, and scruffy Alex, clad in a green jumper and black beanie, the garment hidden under the hood of said jumper, who, by putting a finger to his temple fully emulates a listening stance and possibly nervousness.
"It's just so surreal!" I blurt enthusiastically from my hotel bed, enumerating the all-inclusive's benefits.
"The shower's so oversized it can fit ten people! And my suite not only has an additional salon with a second TV, but also has a private terrace that leads directly to a private pool! And because the weather's so nice, I can laze around in my bathing suit all day. Did I also mention that the maid comes every day not only to make the bed, but also to undo the bed for nighttime?"
"And, the food! Oh my God!" Feeling euphoric, I holler, if possible, with even more fervour, "We have a mini-fridge that gets stocked every day with water, beer, juice and chips, but we can order from room service whenever we want. Along with a massive buffet, there's ten different themed restaurants that are all so good!"
Suddenly overcome with gratitude, I pause to inhale, then upon the subsequent exhale, become teary-eyed, "I owe it all to my parents. Without them, this wouldn't be possible. Remind me to thank them every day for the next 10 years."
Having been, meanwhile, nodding along to my monologue with interest, he redirects the attention to himself, rolling his eyes upwards and muttering a "uh," evidently still nervous by the way he uses his index finger the rub the scruff on his upper lip.
"So, I also have exciting news," he continues, as said finger is waved in the air with different intensities to punctuate his words.
"Yeah?" I question, eyes open wide in curiosity.
"We're opening up for Avril Lavigne on three selected Canadian dates of her Bite Me Tour." he announces, once again gesticulating, his full hand swerving from left to right as he explains," It's not like we could say no, considering we haven't played a show in a little. Essentially, we have a set of about 30 minutes after MOD SUN and grandson, for the Quebec date on May 6th and the Ottawa date on May 9th."
Rubbing a knuckle under his nose, the telltale signs of a smile forming, he then murmurs, "along with the Montreal date on May 7th."
Having been floored with excitement, first from my vacation, and now for Alex, knowing that he'd be back on the touring grind, which I knew he immensely missed, some details of his admission go unnoticed, namely that he'd be touring cities close to me.
"Wait, where did you say you were again?" I frown.
"I said," he starts, "that Montreal is on May 7th", he emphasizes "at Place Bell."
"Place Bell is actually in Laval," I retort, not registering his admission, but more so, annoyed that, once more, the two very distinctive metropolises got mixed up, then shrug, "but whatev—"
Cutting myself short by the then realization that he'd literally be as little as 45 minutes from my home, I shriek in delight, eyes widening and nearly jumping on the bed in excitement, challenging him, "You'd better not be lying to me, Alexander!"
At this, he gasps in faux defence, putting a hand to his heart, "I'm devastated that you'd think I'd do that to you (Y/N)!" then just as quickly, becomes giddy and hopeful, "So this means you'll come?"
By no means wanting to further test his patience, but more so because I'm put on the spot, previous responsibilities lingering in my head making me incapable of concluding at this moment, I hesitate, scrunching my face in indecision, "I don't know 'Lex."
"I did some research, though," he informs me with a serious look, as his open hands do all the talking, "On Sunday, after the Quebec and Montreal date, we have a day off before going to Ottawa. I checked on Google and it's exactly an hour and fifty-nine minutes away from where you are. Since I won't have to pass any customs or anything, that just means that I can spend the day with you, then join the boys later in the evening."
"Oh to have been your border agent!" I sing out, then further tease him, "So I could have brought you in for a secondary examination!"
In lieu of a non-verbal reply to my twisted comment, his lips instantly widen into an anticipatory grin as he raises his hands towards his shoulder to push his palms together and to stretch his sleeved arms to the left, his response nothing short of hopeful.
"Oh, I'm just looking so forward to see you! he hollers, his eyes twinkling, "You could watch our set and Avril's, while relieving your childhood" "Plus!" he cries, as a child would when receiving a one-of-a-kind gift for a birthday or Christmas, "We could sightsee!" That's going to be" his tone becomes gruff, "awesome!"
Fully enamoured by his research and enthusiasm, but not wanting to crush his hopes as I wasn't even sure of my plans for the next day, much less for a concert over a month away, I offer him a genuine smile and a solution, that, even though not definite, still has butterflies erupting in my stomach at the possible implications.
"I'll think about it, okay?"
(A/N)
Never though I'd write about Avril Lavigne, implicitly as it may be, but after seeing her in concert on May 7th, not to mention the month of indecision and disorganization from Evenko that I went to, I had to put my experience in writing. Plus, I had lots of gifs in my gallery just begging to be used.
Naturally, I am already working on the second part. In fact, the gif and title have been chosen, while the plot is in development.
Once more, likes and comments would be greatly appreciated!
