The pattern of his coat differs, darker at the tail and lighter at the sides, from the one holding me hostage. His is more tawny but the colors are undefined.
His body comes between the flower and I, blocking my path to get a closer look on the mystifying object.
He tries to corral me away from the cabin and the flower. His position is clear, he is in charge, and his attitude is somewhere between jerk and passable male persona.
I keep my back to the way I came to the clearing not sure if I can trust this creature.
I compare the two intellectually advance animals and find I like the one that keeps me in the cabin with his grumpy manners and food more than the polite jerk in front of me.
His movements carry us from the glowing light and to the shadows at the edge of the even clearing. I freeze when I feel a distant warmth behind me.
With the wind blowing into my face I know the wolf in front of me does not know that another is behind me.
The pull to turn and grab hold of his fur to have him take me away is strong but I tense because of my skills of running have prove lacking. So I bide my time until he wants to make himself known.
The wolf, playing chase, starts to growl and raise his hackles as my wolf moves to put his body between the jerk wolf and I. I brush my hand along his longest layer of fur. The hair tickles my palm and he shakes, maybe equivalent to a human shiver.
The stand off between the two goes strong but when my body shudders from the cold my wolf turns breaking the staring contest. The other wolf jumps sending both down onto the fresh powder.
Their bodies spin each fighting to have to advantage. My wolf end up under the new wolf. I don't want to go with him the air surrounding his ........ person is shrouded in arrogance and self serving.
"Please take me back to the cabin. I promise I won't leave again without you please just take me back to our cabin."
The two still at my pleading but by the end the fight is back on but with more fight in my darker wolf.
The air fills with copper scent denoting blood has been shed. The once white snow has many pink patches and too many dark red spots. The two break apart both heaving trying to catch their breath before once again trying to get the upper hand. Their second wind comes but this one turns to strategic movements verses brute strength from earlier.
The cold breaks through my clothes and shoes. My toes and fingers slowly turn colder and colder. My legs are next to battle the unforgiving weather. To keep my arms and upper body as comfortable as possible, I bring my arms to wrap around my body, trying to trap the warmth and keep out the cold. My teeth start to chatter as the wind picks up and snow drops softly to add to the white terrain under my feet.
I curl up against a tree at my back to defend against the elements as I watch the on going battle for my safety.
A snarl rips through the air as my heavy eyes close to conserve my body warmth. Before my body shuts down all functions I hear a whimper then a faint snap.
