The sun shone on the Kennedy household, a bright new day had begun and the residents of the house were feeling calm. Their purple friend had returned and even though everyone was still on edge due to Henry escaping the trap they kept going about their lives like normal, and everyone was happy. Except Jack.
The orange man sat in his office reading the paper, he scanned the paper every day for any sign of Henry, it took him a minute to realise he had just read the same sentence 3 times and tossed the paper onto the desk with a sigh. No matter what he did he could not focus, his thoughts would drift back to Dave who was his best friend in the world, but Jack wanted more. It had been a week since the new year began and he would only see Dave passing by but when he rushed to talk to him he would disappear.
The endless flow of thoughts drifted back the the dream he had last night, he stood under a balloon archway as Dave walked in wearing a dress of deep purple down the aisle, following behind was blackjack with a pillow on his head that held two rings. Henry was sleeping outside on a dirty bench with Matt behind him acting as the big spoon. Dave's lips meet Jack's and then he woke up alone in his bed, a crippling wave of loneliness washed over him. Dave had been sleeping on the couch in the living room since new years.
Jack slowly started spinning in his office chair as tears forced their way out from his eyes, he could go to Peter but things have been awkward between them ever since he walked into a broom closet to grab a mop and saw Peter and Steven making out. Jack knew for a while but he had hoped they would announce it to everyone and things would be fine but ever since their victory against Henry things had been depressing for the orange man. He got up and started to drift from room to room, watching the poor sap in the springbonnie costume lumbering around on stage.
Jack decided to go to the one place he knew he could get some peace and quiet, the roof. He opened the door and looked at the purple and orange camping chairs that still sat there, like time had never moved. He sat down looking at the empty case of beer that they left all those weeks ago, the sun was begin to set which bathed the city in a calming orange glow. Jack shivered a tiny bit as a gust of wind blew past, another wave of tears started flowing from his eyes. He fucked up, he acted too soon and destroyed everything he wanted. Jack stepped a little closer to the edge. He wasn't even able to stop Henry from escaping. Jack took another step. He should have been more worried about Dave that first night, maybe then he wouldn't have gotten hurt at all. Another step. Maybe it would be better if he just took one more step, maybe his family might be safe, maybe Dave might be happier if he was gone.
"Hey sportsy" Jack whirled around to see Dave looking at him with bags under his eyes "you look cold."
Jack froze as Dave slowly walked up and put his purple jacket around Jack's shoulders. The orange man still didn't say a word as Dave put a hand on his back and guided him to the two chairs. Jack stood and watched the sun the was barely visible across the horizon.
"I'm sorry." Dave muttered
Jack turned and met Dave's gaze, his eyes were sad and longing, his hair looked slightly disheveled. Jack wondered if he had been sleeping at all.
"I shouldn't have avoided you" He continued "I'm just so scared of you getting hurt. Anybody i'm around always gets hurt, Henry is ruthless and won't stop at anything to those who wronged him. I can't risk losing you old sport, you mean so much to me. If I lost you I-I-I."
His voice broke off but Jack didn't need to hear the end of the sentence, he knew what Dave was thinking as soon as he looked back at the ledge.
"I don't care." Jack said, quickly elaborating once he saw the look of betrayal on Dave's face. "I don't care if he comes for me, I don't care if he burns my house to ash or-or kicks my dog! I don't care what happens, I-I don't want to be alone again."
Jack froze, he wasn't supposed to say that. He look up at Dave through blurry eyes not knowing when he started crying again, he blinked the tears away. Dave was a lot closer than Jack thought, his arms were still wrapped around Jack, at some point the orange man must have unconsciously done the same thing as his arms were wrapped around Dave.
"You won't be" Dave said quietly "you won't be alone ever again Jack."
The sun was barely visible over the skyline, Jack could feel Dave getting closer and closer. Time must have stopped, Jack could feel Dave's lips against his own but he didn't wake up. He had to be dreaming and he would wake up alone again in his bed with nothing but his thoughts and tears. However the moment never came, he was awake. Jack leaned into the kiss as the sun finally set and night began to fall.
