It was a normal day..as long as you ignore the fact that it wasn't. An ordinary summer evening, sunsetting and children playing in their gardens, just like I had done all day long. Now it's getting dark and I'm on my way home from a friend's (Cecilia's) house. We'd been at the water park all day long and it had been too warm to not be in the water. When I say 'we' I'm talking about me, Cecilia and Mateo, the three of us. We had agreed that the next day we'd go back to the water park, then the three of us would stay at Cecilia's. Mateo is a recently added to the group friend and we didn't know much about him. Cecilia lives in Cardiff and I live in Caerphilly so it's just a small train journey to their house, to hell if any of us know where Mateo lives, he's a little bit of a strange kid.

So now it's Sunday, the day after the water park, it's 10:30am and I just woke up. I prepared everything for the water park and packed my overnight back for the sleepover. I opened the front door to see a storm. Of course we couldn't go to the water park in the middle of the storm so I called Cecilia, she said I was still able to go over to hers and Mateo was already there. I hop on the train to their house and I am greeted by Mateo when I get there. I could tell something was off about him, I just wasn't sure what yet, but I would soon find out. Night time came and we became very bored, the storm had calmed and Mateo decided he wanted to go out exploring the neighbourhood. We all decided it sounded fun, but still I didn't quite trust him yet.

Chapter 2 - Cave madness

It's midnight and we are all becoming tired, remember I said I didn't trust him, yeah he got us lost. We're in some cave and none of us know where we are. We decided we needed to sleep before we could figure something out. We set out a campfire and settled for the night. However things would not be the same when we woke up...

I awoke first and realised Mateo had gone, so I wake up Cecilia and we went looking for him. We heard a noise and jumped, but it was just the wind. The dark and eerie air was filled with coldness and we were getting worried. Finally we see a trail of footsteps and follow them. Next thing we know we're at, what looks like a cave home for someone, or they've made it look that way. There was no sight of anyone, but I could feel someone breathing behind me. We turned around slowly, and there was Mateo. We ask him where he's been and he says he had gone to find more wood for the fire and found this part of the cave. I definitely did not believe him at this point, why would he go off on his own? I thought to myself. "Look behind you" Mateo shouted. We turned around and everything went black...

Chapter 3 - What happened?-

I opened my eyes and everything was blurred. 'Where am i? What am I doing here? What day is it? What happened? My head was filled with confusion. "Mateo!" I shouted, there was no reply. My head hurt, had I been hit? That's it! We turned around and Mateo hit us, but why? I had to find out. I stood up to see Cecilia unconscious, I had no choice but to leave them while I looked for him. I found him near a river that he had found. I asked him why he did it and his reply was numb. "I couldn't let you find out", he mumbled.

Find out what? Now I was getting scared and needed to get back. I called for Cecilia as they had now woken up. As we were making our way to where we saw light, we came across something else, something that looked shockingly and scarily unreal. Was it.. a bone?! We got closer and saw what looked like at first a dog bone, then a human finger. We ran and Cecilia phoned the police when we got reception. Then I remembered Mateo's words "I couldn't let you find out". No I knew something was off about him, but we couldn't have been hanging out with a murderer.

Chapter 4 - Murder investigation

It's two months later now and the detectives had gathered enough evidence for Mateo to be locked away. I am still traumatised, no one expects to be enjoying summer holidays one minute and the next be finding a dead body, AND realising that murderer was your friend. I still spend a lot of time at Cecilia's house and we both don't really talk about what happened, because it's scary. For all we know we could have been killed on that trip. As the beginning of my story says, it was a normal day, if you ignore the fact that it wasn't. I would never have expected my summer holidays to end this way. Maybe Mateo will rot in jail, that's what he deserves. As for me and Cecilia, we've become a lot closer...
