love, everlasting

every night i lay on a bed of violets,
and pray for a second chance.
though that's not true, is it?
remind me how it has already come and gone;
we both know that by now.
i tried hundreds of times
to glue the pieces together,
but i never made them fit
until it was too late once again.
i hope you sleep softly
in the arms of another.
lying in wilted wildflowers,
i'm daydreaming of lilies
from the garden i abandoned.
please know i still love you always,
like an everblooming rose.
