He can't find his friends.
It's probably all the alcohol, he thinks as he walks through the crowd full of college students. It's been a while since he's been to a place like this, why did he agree anyway? He doesn't like concerts when he's not the one on the stage, but he's not young anymore, he can't afford to keep doing this.
How long has it been since their last concert? He can't recall. Could've been yesterday, could've been three years ago.
He looks up at the stage, the band's getting ready to start a new song, the crowd's cheering. 'I have that exact shirt!' He wonders if all drummers have the same taste. But, as he looks more closely, the drummer looks very familiar. Like a person he used to see every day. But now he can't even recall his name or where they met.
The band starts a new song and he forgets about his friends. He doesn't need to find anybody, he just needs to stay here for eternity and listen to this song. It's his favorite. The crowd used to go wild, as they do now, whenever they played it. He was very good at this one, not unlike the drummer playing it right now.
But he still can't remember.
Where did they meet? They look close in age, maybe they met in school? Or maybe he's one of Ryan's friends, maybe that's why they got the tickets. Ryan's got a lot of friends, one of the guys on stage even looks exactly like him! Maybe it's a brother he never mentioned. Despite his outgoing nature, he is very secretive, after all.
The song is nearing its end. 'Didn't we also play this last time? What a coincidence.' He thinks.
His eyes catch a glimpse of the woman standing near the stage. She's shouting his name and waving for the band. His wife did that at every concert, she never missed them even if she was exhausted from work. He couldn't let her overwork herself for the baby, though. That's why they threw a last concert. One last taste of childhood dreams and the high they brought before ending it all. They're grown-ups now, they decided to move on.
The woman in front of the stage has a bulge on her stomach, she's pregnant. 'Maybe she'd get along with Lily. They even dress the same, she loves that jacket.'
"Oh!" He finally remembers who the drummer is.
And the song ends.
He can't find his friends.
