Daylight poured through the house as Tanjiro started getting ready to sell charcoal in the village below the mountain. "Be safe," his mother said as his family saw him off. Nezuko was on her way back to the house, "don't take too long; I am cooking your favorite meal tonight," she said. "I will come home as soon as I can," he said before he started walking down the mountain.
"It's getting harder to sell charcoal with these new heaters available, " Tanjiro thought while heading back home. "Tanjiro!" He looked back as Saburo was waving to him. "you shouldn't be out this late; you may run into a demon," "demon?" Tanjiro questioned. "yes, there are demons that wander at night looking for humans to feast on; you should sleep here tonight and go back tomorrow."
"I can't, Nezuko is making my favorite dinner, and I want to be back quickly." "Ok, just watch out for anything dangerous," Saburo said, looking worried. "I will, thank you."

A blizzard started as Tanjiro headed back home, his face constantly being hit with snow and wind; he couldn't see anything further than a few feet in front of him. The snowfall started to lighten up when he caught the scent of blood. Tanjiro dropped everything and ran as fast as he could through the thick snow; when he arrived, he saw the corpses of his family strewn across the snow, then he saw a figure emerge, all in black with pools of blood dripping from his fingers and sharp eyes bathed in bright crimson that pierced through the darkness. Tanjiro grabbed his hatchet and attempted to strike down the killer in grief and rage, but he dodged his attacks. Then suddenly, his vision went black, and he lost consciousness.
