Night keeps stupidly falling in love with the wrong people. The disease keeps coming back and back. Five surgeries later and he's given the news that his body wouldn't be able to handle another one. He promises he won't fall in love with anyone until he's sure they love him back... Like he could ever control his feelings.
The first scene was supposed to be the introduction and then the second was one of the endings for that story. In between the first and second was supposed to be Night meeting Nightmare and falling for him and Nightmare doing his best not to fall for him. The reason Nightmare didn't want to love Night was because he had hanahaki before and he almost died. He only survived because he fell out of love with the person.
The third and fourth scene are an alternate, much sadder ending.

It started out simple. Someone asked for his chocolate cake and Nightmare was more than glad to give it to him because he didn't like sweet things. But then the person caught his eye with his funny way of eating the chocolate.
Nightmare found himself spiraling to do whatever he could to continue to see Cross and talk to him. He convinced himself that it was because he was curious about him and nothing more.
But then he really started to question himself when Cross asked him to the school dance.
And he agreed.
