"I can't believe you actually talked with him. Are you crazy?" Ellie smacked my arm.

"Ow! What the hell?" I scoffed at her, rubbing my now sore arm.

"That was barely a hit, calm down woman," Ellie rolled her eyes as she reloaded her chamber with another round of ammunition. "What did you guys even talk about?"

"Nothing," I shrugged while keeping my focus on the targets in front of us. "Just mostly caught up. Asked how I was, I asked about his job, etcetera."

"Nope. No way V. You can't just tell me that and leave it at that. Give me more details!" she exclaimed, sounding more like a teenage girl.

I sighed. I placed my weapon down on the counter and turned to face her, even though she was using up her last round. "Turns out, after he finished law school and worked at a DA's office, he took over his father's company a few years ago, while opening his own law firm, and ever since, Axel's been coming up with more ideas to grow and expand or invest, or he's been hired to represent someone for their case, usually the big criminals. Hence why he's so rich now. Which makes sense. And I hate to admit it, but he has always has been smart with money."

Ellie, who finally fired her last round, placed her gun down and stared long and hard at her target that was a few feet away. She was either thinking about everything that I had just told her, or checking out where she missed a few good shots. "Huh."

"What?" I raised my brow, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Nothing. I'm just surprised he didn't beg for you to take him back or anything like that. He's acting very...civil, if you will." she said.

"Why would he? He did see my engagement ring and I told him about it. Not about Ryder and what he does, but that I'm happy and in love." I added. It's been nine days since I've seen Axel and caught up with him briefly. I haven't seen him since then, however, we have been texting each other almost every day. And even if we barely say much, he'll at least send a hello text message or tells me to have a good day. I've only told Ellie about Axel, no one else. I thought about calling my sister, Kamryn since her and I are close and maybe tell her about it, but she's still in Paris as far as I'm aware. I am close with my other sister, but she can't keep her mouth shut about anything.

"Good. I'm glad. I don't want Axel getting any ideas." Ellie stated as we handed our weapons back to the officer who was in charge of where they were kept.

"He won't. Remember that guy I had a fling with before Axel asked me out? He backed off until the guy told me he wasn't looking for a relationship. I doubt he'll try anything now." I assured. At least, I hope not.

"Well, we're adults and it's your choice on what you decide. And I'll support it fully. However, doesn't mean I like him." Ellie stated.

I nodded. "I don't think he even knows who Ryder is. But valid point." I chuckled. Once we were good to go, we made our way to the locker room to grab our things. I grabbed my one bag and made my way to the bathroom stalls, locking it behind me. I quickly stripped, changing into some skinny jeans, a long sleeve black shirt and my converse shoes. I yawned. I slept terribly last night, so I was surprised I could focus on anything at all today, let alone stay awake. I tried watching a Netflix movie or two last night to see if that could help me fall back asleep, but it didn't work.

"Have you heard from Jackson?" Ellie asked me as we shut our lockers, grabbed our purses and made our way out the doors down the hallway towards the main doors.

"No. I thought you did? I haven't seen him in two days." I shrugged.

"That's weird. It's not like him to miss work." Ellie said, worried.
