Waking to the rising sun and the temperature is warm every day, the smell of salt on the horizon, the sound of the wind blowing through the palm trees, and the waves crashing on the smooth white sand of the beach. Hawaii is the perfect place for a honeymoon, its paradise.

Lucy awoke at sunrise, like any other day. She was so used to getting up this early from being a high school math teacher for the last six years. Lucy made sure to be quiet so her husband could get some much needed sleep. The last few nights have been spent staying up late and exploring the tastes and feels of the other. She couldn’t help the smile that formed on her lips. Just thinking about last night made her hot to her core.

“No need to be quiet, my love. I have not been to sleep yet,” the husky sound of the male voice said.

The sound of his voice sent shivers down her back, making a small quiet moan leave her lips. She shook her head, clearing her thoughts of all dirty images, before she turned around to scold her husband. “Don’t do that. It’s too early in the morning to have a heart attack.” Lucy tried to keep a straight face, but once he pulled the puppy dog eyes, she was a goner. She laughed at him as he got up and walked over to stand in front of her.

Seeing his wife walk around the room in all of her naked glory made Paul hard immediately. “Where are you going?” he asked as he pulled her closer to him. He could remember the sweet taste of her soft, warm skin and Paul couldn’t wait any longer for another taste. He bent down to the side of her neck, licking across her collarbone. He kissed his way to her earlobe, sucking it in between his lips and biting down gently.

A moan left Lucy’s lips as she wrapped her arms around his neck. “I was…heading for….the shower,” she said between pants.

Paul pulled away from her delicious skin and looked into her beautiful brown eyes. “I will join you.” The smile on his face was devious and promised to be anything but sweet. And that smile just did it for her. She stood on her tip toes and kissed him on the lips. Before he could deepen the kiss, she pulled away and ran to the bathroom. She closed the door behind her and just leaned against it, catching her breath. She heard Paul jiggle the door handle and then chuckle. “I will-.” He started but was interrupted by the sound of his phone going off. He sighed and headed over to his side of the bed. The number flashing across the screen was one that he did not recognize.

Clearing his thoughts, he tried to get himself under control before seeing who it was that interrupted his honeymoon.

“Hello?” he asked in the receiver.

“Paul,” a raspy, female voice said on the other end.

“Mom, what’s the matter? Is everything alright?” The frantic sound of her husband’s voice was clear through the door. Lucy grabbed a towel off of the rack and wrapped it around her as she headed for the love of her life.

Penny couldn’t hold it back any longer. She sobbed into the phone, despite the calls from her twenty-nine year old son.

Stephen heard his wife crying outside the hospital door. He got up from the chair beside his daughters bed and went to check on Penny. Once he saw the phone attached to her ear, he assumed that she was on the phone with Paul. He stepped up to his wife and pulled her to his chest as he took the phone away from her. “Paul?” he said.

“Dad, what the hell is going on?” Paul practically shouted on the other end. Lucy was standing next to him, thankful that the speaker was turned up loud enough for her to hear the whole conversation.

Stephen thought for a moment on how he would break the news to him. Paul and Madeline were always close, closer than most brothers and sisters. Not coming up with an easy way, he sighed and began to talk. “Madeline was in a car accident last night.”
