Our rusty car jerks down the cracked road. The windows are rolled all the way down, making the howling wind blow through my hair and into my face. It is silent in my car besides the blowing wind and my mother cursing under her breath. I look out the window and roll my eyes, until my mother pressed the button and the window goes back into place, nearly closing on my throat.
"You're kidding, right?" I hiss. My mother purses her lips, and keeps her eyes focused on the road ahead, even though I know she's feuding on the inside.
"Obviously I'm not kidding if I did it," she retorts. I let a sigh roll out and roll my eyes again. "You can let your eyes roll out of your head for all I care, Addison."
"Who told you off?" I say, nearly spitting. She breathes in than exhales, pushing her bangs forward for a second. She makes a short stop at a red light, and looks at me right in the eye, almost like she is trying to read my soul. I hold the stare for a few seconds, until I can handle anymore and I look away.
"You better keep your mouth shut about my attitude, or you will be the next one I blow off. Hear me?" On the word 'hear', she screamed it so loud I jumped, causing me to slam my head into the window. I grunt and move my palm to the side of my head and let the pain slowly disappear. My favorite way to start a Friday morning.
I slouch back into the car chair, and let my head rest on the head rest. I close my eyes, and I let the silence that is now created again sooth me. I haven't heard the silence in a long time, all I hear is yelling and the slamming of walls. I always thought when somebody was silent it meant something was not going well for them or they were furious with some one. Apparently, I was wrong.
