Acrostics

Have you ever written your best friend's name vertically and mention the name of her crushes starting with the same letter against each of your friend's name's letter? If you had, you had unknowingly created an acrostics.

An acrostic is a poem or other form of writing in which the first letter, syllable or word of each line, paragraph or other recurring feature in the text spells out a word or a message. This is the Wikipedia definition for acrostics.

First time I read this I understood nothing, but later on, after reading the examples, I learnt something. Come, let me explain it with a selfish example.

As many of you know, my name is Sree. So if someone writes an acrostic on me, than, the first letter of the first line would be S, the first letter of the second line would be R, the first letter of the third line would be E and the first letter of the forth line would be E.

In fact, the letters needn't necessary be the first ones of the line. We could follow any pattern. Of course, there is an example,

For her this rhyme is penned, whose luminous eyes,

Brightly expressive as the twins of Leda,

Shall find her own sweet name, that nestling lies

Upon the page, enwrapped from every reader.

Search narrowly the lines!- they hold a treasure

Divine- a talisman- an amulet

That must be worn at heart. Search well the measure-

The words- the syllables! Do not forget

The trivialest point, or you may lose your labor

And yet there is in this no Gordian knot

Which one might not undo without a sabre,

If one could merely comprehend the plot.

Enwritten upon the leaf where now are peering

Eyes scintillating soul, there lie perdus

Three eloquent words oft uttered in the hearing

Of poets, by poets- as the name is a poet's, too,

Its letters, although naturally lying

Like the knight Pinto- Mendez Ferdinando-

Still form a synonym for Truth- Cease trying!

You will not read the ridle, though you do the best you can do

This work titled "A Valentine" by Edgar Allan Poe is known as an acrostic poem. To read the message read the first letter of the first line, second of the second line and so one. The message states "Frances Sargent Osgood", who was a friend of Poe's while working for the Broadway Journal.

Moral - Rule is that there are no rules. We could create styles however we want.

Now my turn.....

MEERA NAGA...!

Merry and happy are the words that describes your relationship

Every looks at you in awe as if you both don't even face a hardship

Enjoying every moment with each other you live

Rememberable memories, each other you give

At all the times, you live for each other

Never to even separate your names I bother

A peaceful couple, you I wouldn't call

Glares of anger, arguments and fights you did have

All of them, within you both you did solve

This poem is about a couple, my brother and his lover, who are made for each other....!

Saying again, these poems needn't necessarily be rhyming.
