Chapter Eight: Meet Paul

Maddie made her way to the prison at the very back on the Island. Behind the volcano and away from the town. The same prison where Selena lost her eyesight so many years ago now. And the prison where Maddie's father, Paul, is being held. He wore some torn-up jeans and a grey hoodie. He had brown hair and a blue eye accompanied by a grey one which had a scar going across it. Selena gave that to him in one of their many battles so now his depth perception is a bit off. Not that it's a problem now as he's used to it. Maddie walked up to his cell where he was reading a book. 

"Hi dad," Maddie said

"Been a while since you've visited me, Maddie," Paul said with his notable Scottish accent, putting the book down, "did something come up?"

"In case you haven't noticed, Pippa Pirate has turned evil and is taking over the world. It's a bit difficult to visit you when you're being hunted."

"It's all that time with Selena. She took some inspiration."

"Dad, I don't think Pippa would kidnap Selena if she took inspiration from her."

"Is this what you came here to tell me? You would think that I couldn't care less who kidnapped Selena after she kidnapped the Princess of Tua Bay, ruined my eyesight, and put me in here when it should be her in here instead. She's the villain, not me."

"If Pippa kills Selena, you may never see Princess Abi again. I'm here because we need you to bring Selena back."

"She will never give the Princess back."

"Save her and maybe you will have her back. Please, Dad. Do this for me at least."

Paul just looked at her. Back with Pippa, she was ordering everyone she trusted so far to go out and capture those who are in hiding and refusing to join her. Maddie and Piro are on the top of her list. She wanted those two out of the way so they didn't have a chance to stop her. Selena was doing anything she could to escape from her cage. As the cage was attached to the ceiling, Selena would try to swing over to her weapons or at least the control panel that kept her locked in.

But, the chain attached to the ceiling wasn't long enough for her to reach any of them. She even tried kicking the door down or getting the bottom to fall off just to test her luck but nothing. Her luck was slowly running out. Back with Pippa, she was sitting on her new throne when some of her crew came in with people all chained up. These were just a handful of people who tried hiding from Pippa.

She would have the decency to give them a second chance to join her or they would die. But there was one in the group who wasn't surrendering that easily. On the journey to the castle, one of them had been unlocking their handcuffs. When they did, they dropped the cuffs and stole a sword from the pirate next to them. They finally removed their hood to reveal that it was Paul. He had taken up Maddie's deal to rescue Selena. Not that he wanted to. He just wanted to know where the Princess he's been searching for is and only Selena knows that. 

"Well, well, well. If it isn't Selena's greatest enemy," Pippa said standing up from her throne, "I must say, you're the last person I expected to save her considering everything she's done to you."

The pirates took out their swords or guns and pointed them at Paul.

"Stand down! I'll take him myself," Pippa said taking out her sword and walking over to Paul, 'There's no way I'm gonna sit this one out. Gotta take a chance now. Not be a prisoner of doubt. Gonna knock them away in a whirl. It ain't no sin. I got the feeling of fortune. Deal me in. I'm coming straight on for you,' Pippa and Paul started their duel, 'I've made up my mind. I'm feeling strong now, now I'm coming through. Straight on, straight on for you. Straight on for you!'

Paul kept fighting her until he managed to hit her on the back of the head with the end of his sword, making her back down for a moment. Out of panic, she looked to the stairs that led to where Selena was. Paul noticed this, thanked her, and started running that way. Pippa ordered her Pirates to chase him so he used the railing of the stairs to get down faster. He got to the bottom safely and ran to the room Selena was being kept in. When she noticed Paul running in, she was surprised to see him but she didn't say anything and just told him to watch out. Pippa had caught up and was ready to stab him in the back. Paul dodged and their duel continued.

'Now I know how to play my hands,' Paul said backing away, 'What the winner don't know, the gambler understands.'

"What does that mean?" Pippa asked him, "No! You don't stand a chance!'

'You don't stand a chance,' they charged at each other again

'I'm coming straight on for you.'

'Straight on for you,' their duel continued.

While they fought, Paul was trying to find a way to unlock the door Selena was in when he noticed Selena eyeing the control panel. 

'I've made up my mind. I'm feeling strong now, now I'm coming through. Straight on, straight on for you. Straight on. Straight on for you.'

'Straight on for you,' Paul said stabbing the panel and opening the door.

'Straight on for you!'

Selena jumped out of the cell and ran to her weapons while Paul kept Pippa busy. Maddie still had Selena's sword so she just took her knife and ran over to the two. Selena went behind Pippa, got her in a choke hold, and used her knife to slit her throat. Unfortunately, that wouldn't keep Pippa dead for long. But long enough for the two enemies to escape.

Selena looked at her knife which was now covered in purple blood. Selena now knew for certain that Pippa's Uncle, Unicron, was definitely behind this. Pippa's blood was once blue like her father's, now it was purple and dark like her Uncle's. It pained Selena to look at the blood that caused so much trouble in the past. Selena stopped staring at the knife and collected her things, leaving the castle with Paul.
