Mackenzie started to cry, she couldn’t believe that they were gone. Her life just gone, gone like a snap of the finger. A couple of days later she arrived at school, still shaking from the event that happened. People came up to her and hugged her. She didn’t want to be there. She wanted to go home and sleep for eternity. People just wouldn’t let her be. She snarled at Ken when he gave her a sympathy gift. Ken was a jock. He was a friend stealer and a heart breaker. He quickly snapped his hand into a fist. No one had ever snapped at him like Mackenzie did, not even Jordan, his girlfriend. But, Ken liked Mackenzie, she had a big hear, no one would leave school without a smile. Ken was afraid to talk to her. He couldn’t even say: “hi.” Later that day Ken and Jordan got into a fight. Ken was tired of fighting everyday with her, he yelled “you know what Jordan, I’m done! I cant take your shit anymore! It’s OVER!” Ken stormed out as everyone was making room for him. Mackenzie was standing at her locker. She heard everything. When she shut her locker, Ken was standing there, he grabbed her face lightly and kissed her. He let go and walked away. Mackenzie stood there, everyone watching. She couldn’t think straight. She liked it but yet she hated it. To her, the kiss felt long and slow, but it was done fast. She stood there not knowing what to do. As Ken was walking she shouted “Wait.” He stopped but didn’t turn. She walked up to him with the urge to kiss him again. She held back. “Why did you do that?”
“I have wanted to do that ever sense the first time I saw you. Ive had a crush on you sense 8th grade but I never had the courage to talk to you. I know I was a jerk to you but can you forgive me?” He turned and walked away. The final bell rang and Mackenzie walked to her caretakers car. She climbed in without saying a word. Jim looked at her. “Rough day?”
“Kinda” She paused, “can I ask you a question?”
“Yeah you can ask me anything.”
“When a guy breaks up with his, at the time, girlfriend then a few minuets later he kisses you, what are you supposed to do, or what does it mean?”
“Well, obviously he’s into you. I would give him a chance.” The car fell into silence the rest of the way home. The entire time she thought about it though. She couldn’t get him off her mind. When they arrived at home, she quickly went to her bedroom and flew onto her bed. The ringer on her cellphone made her jump. To her surprise it was Ken. The text message read: Hey Mackenzie, Uhm, I’m sorry about earlier today...
She didn’t want to replybut something in her mind made her. Hi, it didn’t bother me, honestly I kind of liked it.
Five minuets passed and no reply. She got ready for bed and still no reply. She switched on her lamp and turned off the main light. It was about 10:30PM and she was on chapter 28 of her book. She took a sip of her sweet tea. Tick...Tick...Tick... She looked at her window. Tick... She got up and looked out her window. Nothing but a soft glow made by the moon. She climbed out onto her balcony. When she looked down she saw a figure of a person standing underneath looking back at her. She medially knew who it was, Ken. Mackenzie ran down the stairs and out to the back yard into Kens arms. He held her tightly. Jim awoke to the sound of the door opening. He pointed the shotgun at her. Mackenzie screamed. “Mackenzie, is that you?” Yelled Jim.
“Yes!” She cried, “Don't shoot!”
With the gun still raised, Jim asked: “Who’s the guy?”
Ken spoke up: “Oh I’m Ken, and I am deeply in love with Mackenzie.”
Jim lowered the gun. “Well it’s late. Inside you two. NOW”
They all walked in. Jim went off to his room, Mackenzie and Ken went to Mackenzie's room. Ken stood in the doorway. He didn’t know what to think of the room. It was so big and organized. Mackenzie walked into the bathroom and threw a pair of sweats at Ken. She stayed in the bathroom till he was done changing. When she came out, she looked at him. Smiling, she walked over to the bed, she climbed in. Ken stood there not knowing what to do. He then climbed into bed with her. Quietly he asked “Mackenzie, you know that I want to date you right?”
In a sleepy voice she replied: “Yeah”
“Will you?” He paused. “Go out with me?”
