A night before engagement.
Hamid: Beta, jaldi soo jaao. Tab hi kal jaldi uth paaogi. Muhurat kal subah 11 baje ka hai. Jaldi jaldi taiyyar hona hoga.
Haseena: Theek hai Abbu. Anubhav kal aa raha hai na?
Hamid: *laughs* Beta, usi se toh tumhari sagaai hai, woh nahi aayega? Kya baat karti ho tum.
Haseena: Nahi, hamara matlab hai ki woh itne busy rehte hain....
Hamid: Sagaai-Shaadi ke liye sab ko free hona hi padta hai beta. Ab jaao soo jaao.
Haseena half smiled and made her way to her bedroom. She lied on the bed imagining tomorrow's events. Had it been any other time, she would have been jumping with joy. It's crazy how we hope for something our whole life and when the thing is finally about to happen, we start thinking otherwise. Human nature is unpredictable and so is our future.
Haseena's phone rang. She took her mobile and received the call assuming it to be someone from the Thaana. She put the phone on her ear and mumbled a 'hello'.
Haseena: *on call* Hello
Anu: Haan, ham bol rahe hain.
The phone almost fell from her hand at her nervousness. She kept the phone on her ear again, took deep breaths and was ready to reply now.
Haseena: Haan. Anubhav kyun call kiya?
She spoke in a professional voice as if she didn't have a heart attack from hearing his voice just a few minutes ago.
Anubhav felt slightly strange as she referred to him as 'Anubhav' and not 'Anu'.
Anu: Haseena, hamein sagaai ke baare mein baat karni hai.
Haseena: Haan, sagaai ke baare mein kya baat karni hai?
Anu: Uhmm...woh....
Anubhav put his coffee mug down and stared at the moon through his window.
Anu: Haseena, tum iss shaadi se khush ho?
Haseena: Pehle, tum batao.
Anu: Hamne tumse poochha hai.
There was something in his voice that used to make chills run down her spine. It wasn't safe for work.
Haseena: Haan, lekin, tumne hi kaha tha na uss din ki tum shaadi nahi karna chahte, khush nahi ho.
Anu: Haan, woh hamari baat thi, ab tum batao.
Haseena looked at the phone's screen and mumbled a curse at him.
Anu: *smiling* Gaali baad mein de lena, pehle baat kar lo.
Haseena almost had a panic attack on how he was able to read her mind, sitting at such a distance.
Haseena: Woh, Anu....pehle tum batao na, tum khush kyun nahi ho?
By now, Haseena was sitting on the bed, taking support of the headboard.
Anu: Kyunki yeh sab bahut jaldi ho raha hai na. Matlab, hamein kuch sochne ka samay hi nahi mila. Aisa lag raha hai ki zabardasti hamari shaadi kara rahe hain yeh log. Nahi?
For once, Anubhav wanted to hear a, 'lekin mujhe tumse shaadi karni hai' from Haseena. Even after being such close friends, they had never talked openly about their feelings, not wanting to lose their friendship, if the other one didn't feel the same way.
Haseena: Haan, hamein bhi...yahi...yahi lagta hai.
Anu: Hmm...Toh tumhe karni hai yeh shaadi? Mann hai tumhara?
