I scream with what little remains of my vocal chords as the beast claws at his prey---me. He keeps scratching at my eyes, unrelenting and with a desperation I've never seen before. My eyes close involuntarily as I try to fend off the creature torturing me, but it is hopeless. There is no escape. I release another terrible screech as one of his claws digs through my eyelid and deep into the epicenter of my eyeball. The excruciating pain causes sobs to wrack my body, but every tear that escapes my bleeding eye only worsens the agony. Blood splatters into the pine straw surrounding my head.
My voice is so hoarse, vocal chords so torn, that I barely make a sound as I continue to cry out. It is strange that we make attempts at survival, no matter the futility of our endeavors. No one is going to be this deep into the woods late at night. I don't even know why I am here. I slowly begin to cede to my fate. Screaming is useless. I am going to die at the paws of this monster.
The claw the beast has inserted begins to pull, slowly tugging my eye out of its socket. I stifle the scream that threatens to rise out of my throat. I will not scream, I will not scream, I will not... the beast's efforts are rewarded as my eyeball rips free from its bind to my body. I scream. The beast takes his prize and walks away, leaving me to die in a pool of my own blood, with only one eye.
