The hospital suddenly seemed busier today. Though it's only Suyeon's first time coming to the place after such a long time, she suddenly found it busier with how much people she struggled to get through before she could finally reach her father's room.
The man lay on his deathbed, barely even holding himself together anymore. The hospice is quiet and cold, and the walls bare and white except for the cupboards and the machines connected to the old man, either monitoring his health or keeping him alive. At this point, he just looks... hopeless.
Even when Suyeon finally came in with Death, he barely even notices.
"... Dad." Suyeon's voice is rather grim when she finally speaks. But it was loud and clear, enough to fill up the room and echo from the walls, and enough for the old man to hear.
It takes a while, but the old man finally replies, his voice frail as he struggles to lift his hand to his daughter. "... Suyeon. You really came?"
"Mm... I did."
It's an odd sight, really.
As Youngtaek watches, he can't help but notice a coldness in Suyeon's words, a strange distance in the actions exchanged between father and daughter. In fact, with the way they act, it doesn't even seem like they're related at all.
Suyeon walks up to her father, eventually, standing by his bed as she looks down at him. The reaper watches her, waiting to see what happens next, but then he notices something in her eyes.
Sadness. Not one of grief, but of longing.
The young woman purses her lips before she smiles softly at her father. "I'm guessing Seungmin and the others were too busy to visit?"
"It's not their fault, of course. They have their work and their own families... What business do they have visiting an old, dying man?" Suyeon's father seems to mean what he said. But that's just one of the things that causes her face to drop.
She came here, not just to see her father, but to try one last time to have some closure. But even when, in the end, she's the only one who ever came to visit him...
"No... I'm probably just overanalyzing it," Suyeon thinks to herself as she shakes her head and smiles softly at her father again. "How are–"
"I'm glad you thought to visit me."
All of a sudden, the old man talks, saying words that would make the young woman stop, not just because she was cut off.
Suyeon looks at her father, and then she closes her mouth as she looks down and sighs. It feels weird. But this time, it feels a little heavier on her chest. Without thinking much, she steps back, suddenly bumping into Youngtaek who she hadn't even noticed had stepped up to behind her. She turns to him briefly, before she mumbles an "oh" and goes back to looking at the ground.
And then another surprising thing happens.
Of course, with this old man's constant involvement with grim reapers, he was bound to have already learned to identify one.
Maybe it's a good thing he had never met Suyeon's good friend Hyunjin. But maybe it might be worse that he suddenly found himself looking at someone much more powerful and possibly much worse than the reaper he often faces:
Death.
"Eugh-Agh!" All of a sudden, Suyeon's father screams, causing the young woman to become alarmed and look up at him only to see him panicking and writhing in his place... his eyes directed right behind her. "S-Suyeon! T-that man behind you! He's– He's–"
"Dad, it's okay! It's okay!" Acting quick, she grabs the old man's wrists and tries to calm him down, reassuring him of his safety. "It's okay... he's with me..."
