It all started with a pop. It made no noise, but more of a flurry of everything. Gases and molecules seemingly popped out of nowhere. What is a gas? What is a molecule? What is an atom? They are all names we as intelligent beings have given the foundations of science.
There is no definite way to announce that an atom is an atom, it is simply a description of what we make of it. We know what it is, how it works, and what role it plays in our grand universe.
This is what I was taught in my youth. Growing up in my native Russia, our science teacher taught us to expect the vast unknown of space; It was simply all apart of science. As time went on, we would learn more and more about the world around us, except one thing: Black holes.
A black hole is a region of space-time that allows no escape. Not light. Not mass. Nothing. And surrounding the black hole is a layer called the "event horizon". This almost mythical layer is what scientists thought to be the point of no return. Going inside it would only be the start of an amazing journey, something that our minds could not even fathom.
This is what I would do, what I would accomplish. I was going to not only make my country proud, but the Earth proud. I would sacrifice my existence for something that was thought to be impossible in Earth's past: enter a black hole.
