(trigger warning: gore)

On this dark December night, the wind was loudly blowing. The busy streets of Seoul were packed with decorations, food and laughter. Everyone was in a jolly mood for the Christmas season. Children were running everywhere, eager to ask for the latest trending toy. Parents were preoccupied by their every move. It was truly a splendid evening.

Keum Jinhye was leaving the library. After another thorough session of study, she was longing for a bubble tea. It was the only thing that could keep her awake to do more.

Indeed, taking back her stuff and pulling back her chair had already been a very tiring task. The student wasn't really seeing herself do anything at all. But sleeping in the library was sadly not an option. She cursed her body for being this weak.

Sighing, she closed the door behind her and headed straight to the coffeeshop.

While walking, Jinhye was exposed to this glorious atmosphere. But she couldn't have found it more dreadful. Every bit of her being felt alienated. The laughter seemed trivial, the food disgusting.

How weirder can this society get? she thought

Jinhye always had a very different way of seeing the world than others. While her friends would fantasize over some random artist, she would just keep her head to her physics books. While others would go out and "enjoy" their youth, Jinhye would stay clustered on her desk. Over time, it made her lose all of her « friends ». But she had been relieved actually.

No more wasting my time

It hadn't always been this way. There was a time where she would too be excited by this season. Yearning to feel the snow drops fall on her skin, drinking hot chocolate with her cousins and watching anime.

But there was no need for her to think about all of this. There was no need for her to hurt herself even more.

Keep walking she ordered herself internally

A shadow had been lurking in the dark, watching Jinhye from afar. Her pace was pretty fast betraying an eagerness to leave this place as soon as she possibly could.

He felt sadness and anger oozing off of the girl and wanted this to be quickly over with.

After crossing and turning in different ways for 20 minutes, Jinhye finally arrived at the site.

It was an unknown part of the city. Empty and Calm. The perfect place for the girl.

She had to prolong her actual path to her house but it was all worth it: to cherish some tranquility, Jinhye would do anything.

She had discovered this coffee shop one day. Baffled by the exquisite taste of the tea, she had sworn that she would only drink it from there. True to her word, it was perfecly normal for her to head there tonight.

Indeed, everything had been common for Jinhye. The very same routine. Every single day.

Taking the last few steps to reach the pedestrian crossing, she didn't even check if any car was passing by. After all, no cars passed by this isolated borough.

Perhaps this was the mistake that the young student made. Everything was common, why would anything change than why bother try to do things in a different way.

This principle applied here, but it also applied to Jinhye's whole life.

And so, when a car suddenly appeared out of the penumbra. She didn't even hear it.

She didn't even realize that the time had suddenly slowed down, as if someone had the power to control it. And yes, this very person was also hiding somewhere, waiting for it to happen.

As the time slowed down, Jinhye fell into the stream of consciousness. Realizing how her life was miserable. How she was so eag- BAM

Before she knew it, a strong, fast and rough object touched her legs. The power of the machine was so strong that her legs went flying, and so did the rest of her body.

Everything was so fast. quick. no time to think

Head spinning. What is happening?

Ouch. The ground is hard.

Ew. What is this metallic taste?

Blood ! My blood ?

What's happening ?

"You are dying" said a voice

How ? What ?

"Do not worry, the pain will ease very quickly. There's no much time left for you now" continued the mysterious sound

What's he on about ? i'm not even in pain-

Again her thought was interrupted. She slowly felt her soul leaving her body.

She was now perfectly up, watching her body. It really was a disitful sight.

Her head had been opened in two after collapsing onto the pavement. A lot of blood was coming out of it, widening the pool of blood.

Her legs had been completely chattered, the bones not being in the rightful place.

Despite this sickening scene, both the spirit and the body shared the same express: a smile

One true feeling had overwhelmed her being, as she felt the car push through her legs: relief.

No more putting an act up: i'm free

"Are you ready to come ?" the voice beamed again

Jinhye turned around in a second. Before her was not a shadow, but a man.
