————————————————————————Richie walks into the house that he now has to call home, it never felt like home though. Mainly because of the lingering smell of weed and alcohol. When he enters the living room, he sees his father passed out on the couch with a beer bottle half empty still in his hand and bottles littering the coffee table and the floor around it.
His little sister, Maggie (named after their mother) was sitting on the ground next to the couch. He tried to walk as quickly and quietly as possible to his room to not wake his father, Knowing what would happen if he did. And then, a pain went up his leg as he hit his thigh on the corner of the coffee table causing all the bottles topple over, making ringing noises in his ears. Another bottle fell to the floor, shattering. Which woke his father. Maggie got up and ran to her room knowing what would happen next. Richie stoped in his tracks, fear taking over his body.
His father jolted awake, looking around for the cause of the noise and stopping when he saw Richie. He got up and walked to Richie, belt in hand. Whipping him over and over, causing red welts and lashes on his arms and back. He yelped as he got hit across the face, leaving a slightly swollen welt that bled at the edges.
After he gets away from his father, he runs to his room shutting the door and locking it before he slowly slide down his door in tears. Trembling, he opens his drawer and grabs a small bag out of it. He opens it and takes out a box cutter and brings it to his left forearm. "You deserve this.." he mutter, making a cut in his arm. "You deserve all of this.." making another. And another. And another. He doesn't know how long it had been, but his arms where covered in red. The box cutter fell from his hand as he started crying harder, putting his head between his knees on the floor.
————-the next morning————-
Richie hadn't slept that night. Dark circles had formed under his eyes and his eyes where bloodshot from crying. He got dressed into a hoodie and jeans and tried to cover the growing bruise on his face with makeup he had taken from his mother a few months back. He climbed out his window, not wanting to confront his father, and grabbed his bike and road it to school.
He sits at his desk in first period class next to Stanly. "You alright?" Stan had looked at Richie and noticed the change in wardrobe, "Yes Stan, I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?" He says smiling. Stanly took that as that and went back to reading his book.
————————-
When lunch time finally arrived, when Richie realized he had forgotten his lunch. Just his luck. He walked to the back entrance and sat next to Eddie, who was in and argument with Ben about who knows what.Eddie noticed how quiet Richie was, and when he turned to face him he saw the faint bruise on his face. "You okay? What happened to your face?" Eddie said with concern flooding his voice "I'm fine Eddie.." "Well you don't look fine." Richie got up not wanting to argue with Eddie, but then he felt a hand grab into his left forearm. He flinched as a pain went up his arm and Eddie let go "I-I'm sorry-" but before Eddie could finish his sentence, Richie had left.
Eddie ran after him. "Richie! Come back I'm sorry" "It's fine" Richie hadn't noticed the bit of blood dripping down his hand from the pressure put on the cuts from the night before, but Eddie noticed "Why's there blood on your hand?.." He walked up up to Richie reaching towards his arm but Richie pulled his hand away. "It's nothing okay?" But Eddie wasn't buying it. He grabbed Richie hand pulling his sleeve up revealing the cuts and he froze. Fear built up in Ritchie's chest as he pulled his arm away and started walking again, tears building up in his eyes.
Eddie grabbed Ritchie's hand and pulled him into a hug.
