Persephone had always been a very cheerful girl. She liked to laugh and always made friends rather easily thanks to her easy-going nature. From the carefree and optimistic way in which Persephone presented herself people thought of her life as pretty great. A golden girl living in a world full of love and attention, even though the dark forces are rising to power day by day. Living a life many other pureblood children would envy her for.
The families with pure blood such as Persephone's were always full of rules and most often prided themselves in being superior. The children were taught from a young age the proper etiquette and were reminded day and night of what they should believe in. These families were usually followers of the dark lord. Strong supporters of his beliefs since he represented the idea of blood purity with a strong belief and he aimed to get rid of all of which they claimed to be dirty, stained with the blood of muggles or in some way influenced by them.
Same lunacy attacked the minds of muggles from time to time, wanting to make the world clean of what they thought of as inferior. So in the end there was no significant difference between the non-magic people and wizards and witches. But explain that to the pureblood.
Of course, not all of them were so dead set on the idea of blood purity. Some just liked to step out of the beaten track. Preferred to be free of harsh discipline and forever bounding rules. That was what Persephone's family was like. Of course, they still had some of the traditions that they liked to keep. For example, her father's side of the family, which comes all the way from America has this tradition of naming the children after gods and goddesses. Whether it was from ancient Greece, Rome or even Egypt. The godly names were to ensure their great fortune in the future and it was said that they embodied the qualities of the god they were named after.
Would that be true, Persephone would have to be patient as the goddess herself was described as a rather patient being. But the girl had far from that. Might be for the fact that she is still merely a child and has to yet learn how to wait for things. Her impatience could have also been fueled by her intense need to finally receive her Hogwarts letter. Ever since her cousin and practically her best friend James Potter had left for Hogwarts she has been longing to go as well. One would not believe how long can a year be when you are intensively waiting for something.
And the time of intense waiting was supposed to come to an end because the date 5th of August had finally rolled around the corner, bringing in the date of Persephone's birthday. The girl is turning eleven now which means only one thing. Her Hogwarts letter should be arriving any moment. She originally planned to spend the day at home, staring out of the window to make sure she spots the owl carrying her future. Her parents weren't home, again, so it seemed it would be a great plan for her. But for that to happen her cousin couldn't be James Potter.
The boy with black messy hair barged inside the house, without bothering to knock as he just marched to the living room where he saw his younger cousin sitting on the window seat, staring into the distance. She appeared to not be even breathing and she sure didn't notice the boy's presence in her house.
The boy rolled his eyes, strolling over to the other child in the room. Being extremely careful to be quiet. He crept all the way to the girl so he was standing just behind her back. Stifling in a chuckle he leaned closer to her ear and screamed at the top of his lungs. His cousin screamed back frightened by the loud noise, she whipped around and punch James square in the face, sending the boy stumbling a few steps back.
"Ugh, James." Persephone groaned in annoyance, calming down once she realised who had scared her half to death.
"Good Merlin what you did that for?" James asked with a moan, covering his nose with both hands. Persephone rolled her eyes.
