(can you guess what I was listening to while I made this?? lol)

============================================================

Wars absently fiddled with a golden button on his stuffy dress uniform. The wool was slightly itchy, and the gold-fringed shoulder boards (he felt) made him look foolish. In truth, he cut an imposing figure. Tonight, he wore a deep Navy-blue dress coat and trousers to match, with a gold-colored cumberbund. His medals glinted with every movement that he made. His signature blue scarf had been traded in for the evening for a ceremonial red one, an emblem of his status as the hero of Hyrule a nod to the times of old... and the impossible shoes he had to fill.

He took a fluted glass of champagne off of a passing tray held by a man in a smart white suitcoat and gold bowtie. The waiter nodded to him in deference as he did so. This party was for him, after all... For All of Hyrule... that was what Wars had told himself at least, but the princess had made a big show of calling him out in a toast at the beginning of the festivities and now seemingly everyone knew his face. He hated it. Contrary to popular belief, he was not a show pony and detested being paraded around as such. He was a warrior. He felt more at home in the training yard, or in the field. Let the other officers have the 'glory'. He looked around at some of them and the way they were soaking up the praise and attention. Malpheus, a tall dark-haired officer who served with Wars on the front lines was preening like a peacock as he regaled a lovely little thing about his heroic exploits. The fair young noble swooned at his words. Malpheus caught Wars' eye over their shoulder and gave him a wink. Guess the old boy was getting 'lucky' tonight...

Wars shook his head, pressing his back to the cool marble of an ornate pillar on the edge of the colorful crowd, and heaved a sigh, exhaling heavily through his nose. He swirled his drink again, looking intently down into it, down at the bubbles, and trying very hard to ignore the hopeful glances from the ladies and the gentlemen of the court as the music swelled into a new song. He didn't feel like dancing tonight. He needed some air. Suddenly a flash of crimson on the other side of the room caught his eye. A figure stood, leaning against the opposing pillar to his own, and looking to be in much the same state of 'thrilled' to be here. This magnificent creature wore a long ornate ceremonial robe with a high haltered throat that draped open in a low cowl down the back of the garment revealing a considerable stretch of their skin in the style of a neighboring kingdom, it was cinched at the waist with a silver brocade sash that caused the gauzy garment to hug their body fetchingly. Their bare arms were adorned with a series of golden arm cuffs from just above the elbow down to their wrists. Bedecked so, in jewels and finery of that same glorious red hue that sparkled and caught the light, they looked almost ethereal. The effect was... Enchanting.

Suddenly, a pair of eyes flashed at his, catching him staring, and he froze.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You fold your arms around your body, lean back against the pillar, and sigh. This party was So extravagant... Too extravagant. You look down into your glass and frown. Your drink was almost empty. You return your attention to the party around you, keeping your eyes open for another, or perhaps at least a few horderves. You scan the colorful crowd. You are positively Starving... Preparing for this ball had consumed your entire day and you hadn't even gotten to have so much as a snack since dawn. The sun was setting now.

Suddenly your eyes connect with someone's from across the room. His startlingly blue gaze seemed to pierce your soul and you felt your breath hitch. This was..... the single most Beautiful man you had ever seen. It was the knight from the ceremony. You had seen him once before. Well... from the back anyway. You recognized his red scarf and golden hair. He had stood before the princess at the beginning of the gala as she toasted him and the rest of the Officer Corps; the Knights of her kingdom. You had never seen his face until now... It was striking.

He gave a small embarrassed-looking smile and gave you the tiniest wave. A sweet little gesture you found yourself reciprocating. His smile broadens a little at this. He seems to stand a little taller now and squares his shoulders as he gingerly begins to move through the crowd towards you.

"Oh... by the mercy of the Gods..." you murmur to yourself as you watch him approach.

"Hello..." he says with a small bow when he reaches you. "My name is Link... May I have the pleasure of knowing yours?"
