“Port Loring, ON” said the GPS that sat next to me. I jumped, not realizing it was there. The car zipped down a thin, dusty road that overlooked a campground. I looked around and admired the view of the lake. All of a sudden, the van came to an abrupt stop at the top of a hill.
“Were here” chirped my Grandma. My heart thumped in my chest. This was the first time in the cottage, and I was excited. The apartment cottage was ours, shared by Jacob, Tyler, my parents and I. My Grandparents cottage was the bigger cottage at the bottom of the hill. I really wanted to explore the land, but my mom insisted we stay and eat, after all the driving we had done. We sat and ate our hamburgers.
“Mom, can we go swimming now?” My brother whined She nodded her head in agreement, and we rushed to get changed. We stepped out the door, locking it tightly. The beach was not even 5 seconds away, so we ran down the steep hill, staggering to stay on our flat feet. Then, the gravel sent a chill down my spine, becasue it sat in the shade. The warm sand finally touched my feet and I stopped, admiring the view. You could see cottages across the lake that weren’t on the resort, boats zoomed past, some old, some new. A few other people sat on the beach, watching their kids in the water. The stones brushed the bottom of my feet as my legs adjusted to the water. My life jacket kept my body afloat in the deep, seaweed covered water. I rushed to get to the trampoline, floating in the water. My brother followed behind me. When I arrived , I noticed that some other kids had followed us out. I steadied my arms on the platform, and pulled my self up almost 2 feet. The air felt cold against my skin. I grabbed my brothers arm, tightening my grip and pulling him up. The other kids arrived, and I pulled them up too. We jumped around, the water splashing underneath us. Afterwards, the girl that I had helped up, asked if I wanted to play with her. She looked about my age, and I needed someone to play with. I couldn’t just sit there and not have any fun! That day, we fished, swam, fed the chipmunks and ate icecream. Almost imedietly, we went from strangers, to best friends! The rest of the week, we played games, swam and caught fish, but the best part about that week was tubing! I had never tubed in my life before this experience. I jumped into the circular inflatable, and the boat started off slowly. As it got faster and faster, butterflies filled my stomach. The air ran through my hair, tickling my neck. We did this for hours on end that day, and it was the best experience ever!
The next year, I was so anxious to see Jenna! My heart pumped in my chest when we arrived. I unpacked all my things and ran down the hill to her cottage. The scenerey was just like we left it last year. It was perfect. I saw Jenna sitting on the dock, and ran over to her
“Jennaaaa” I yelled. But when she turned around, I discovered it wasn’t Jenna.
“H-Hi” she stammered. Little did I know that this would be my new Best Friend
“I’m Sara” I smile, seeing Jenna come. I ran over and hugged her, and soon, we we’re all bonded again! We all sat in the hammok on the beach, watching the sunset, listening to music. I smiled, knowing we’d be together for a week and a half. I would really miss this, hopefully I would be able to see them soon, after I left. I was just glad to stay like this.
