I stood there with Danielle. "So, what's got your panties in a twist?" She asked.
"Car broke down. Again." I responded.
She made a sour face. "I'm so sorry, dude. If I had money to spare, I'd give it to ya."
"I know."
Customers walked in and out of the store. It was a small company, minimum wage, but really cool. We sold goth clothing and accessories, mostly. Danielle was figiting with her lanyard, which she always does when she's bored.
"I'd do anything for extra cash." I said. "You hear that, universe? Anything!"
The only customer in the store, a tall man that looked quite out of place, walked up to me. "Well, you're in luck. I have a job offer." The man said. He slid me a business card. "Call me." He smiled and walked away.
I took the card and read it. Devon Saber, the card read. It had no other information besides his phone number and email address. I showed Danielle the card and she shrugged. "Worth a shot?" She asked.
"Yeah, sure."
When the store closed, we headed our separate ways. We waved goodbye, and I stood at the bus stop. When I got to the daycare, I picked up Jasper and Luna, my brother and sister. My other brothers were at home already.
Luna ran up and hugged me. She was a little over two years old, and she loved hugging more than anything in the world. Jasper was 4, and he was a lot shyer. He walked up to me and grabbed onto my leg. I checked them out for the day and walked home. Jasper got tired halfway through the walk, so I had to carry them both.
When I walked through the door, I smelled mac n cheese. I smiled, knowing my brother Charlie made dinner. We all sat and ate together. Overall, it was a good night.
Once the little ones were asleep, I pulled the business card out of my pocket. I pulled out my flip phone and called the number.
"Hello?" A man's voice asked. I recognized it as the man who gave me the card. Devon.
"Hi, I'm Aiden. You gave me your card earlier? Also, sorry that I'm calling so late."
"It's okay. Hi, Aiden. I remember you very well. Like I said before, I have a job opportunity."
"Okay. Go on."
"I am in dire need of help around my house. Cooking, cleaning, that sort of thing. You will find that I pay well."
"Um, yeah I could do that. I don't have much cleaning supplies, though."
"I can provide that."
"Okay, what is the pay exactly?"
"$500 a day."
"That works for me! When do you want me to come over?"
Once we found a date, I wrote it in my planner. I was practically excited.
