She was a breath of fresh air in the spring when I first saw her. She always had that beautiful smile playing on her lips and her voice; I could melt. The way she would pull her sunglasses off and smile as she walked in, I swear made me want to smile right along with her.
Today she had her uniform slung over her purse. She was on time as usual but I couldn't help but notice the way her cherry brown hair was tousled in the back. She must have been in a hurry. I smiled to myself before leaning back in my chair to prop my book up on my knees.
I couldn't help my glance up and search for her. She was no where in sight which put me in an uneasy state but when I saw the back door swing open, everything felt right again. God, I sound like a child. I scolded myself mentally before burying my face into my book once more.
"Can I get you another coffee? That one there looks a bit cold." That sweet voice was like music to my ears and when I looked up, her hazel eyes were bright. Noticing my silence, she began to reach for my mug.
"Thank you." I said softly before looking back down into my book.
"The Hobbit?" She was still standing there and bending slightly on her hip to see the book cover. I couldn't help but grin back at her. Her lips were that soft looking pink that you see on flowers. She smiled back and she ran her fingers through her hair.
"My brother has read them all. Owns all the movies too." She laughed, her gaze moving swiftly to the floor as her cheeks flushed a brilliant red.
"Your brother has good taste then." I smiled and leaned forward to try to see her face.
"You'll have to let me borrow it sometime." She gave me a quick smile before giving a little wave and walking to get my new coffee.
When she came back I was leaned over the table reading intently then I heard the platter clack against the wood table. I looked up at her and took in her face in again. She was avoiding my gaze and was fixing a napkin under the platter. When she met my eyes she blushed and held out her hand.
"I'm Evangeline." I saw her fingers wiggle a little before I clasped her hand in mine. Her warmth against my cold hands seemed to fill all the gaps in my heart in that little instant. And for once I actually had hope.
"I'm Charlie."
