The harder Subject52 scratched away at her forearm, the quicker the flesh fell away. From the safety of the containment unit's one way mirror Dr. Elma Miles and Dr. Mark Rustenburg watched in dismay as Subject52's treated virus consumed her.
"This isn't working, Mark."
"I told you it wasn't ready, Dr. Miles. I need more time."
Dr. Miles briefly glanced down at her notes and hit the intercom's "Cleaning Crew" button.
"Send in the Janitors, Bill."
A voice saturated in static replied, "Yes, Ma'am."
The door to the containment unit opened and two white body suits walked to the wailing girl in her hospital slip. The girl was covered in a multicolored painting of sores and array of scratches all over her small figure. As the suits approached, Subject52 let out a terrified scream and backed into the corner of the unit.
"I just need more time to tweak Genesis36's code. If I do, I can make Gen-36 an instant killer."
The suits walked purposefully to the cornered girl and sprayed her with clear liquid. One of the suits presented a match while the other made a line with the liquid that ran from the girl to the middle of the room.
"H.Q. won't let me give you any more days, Mark. But I know you can do it, I picked you myself from 150 candidates, and you were the most promising."
The first suit dropped the now lit match on the line and the two suits walked out of the unit. The line caught fire and the flame was on Subject52 almost instantly.
"She's got some lungs, that one."
"Ok," Mark sighed, "Alright. I'll do my best."
"That's what I like to hear. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Good night, Doctor."
