Billy loved Y/ N he really did he would've done absolutely anything for her. He liked the fact that Max and Y/N got on so well, they became very good friends and Y/N always helped Max with her homework, drove her anywhere she wanted to go when Billy wouldn't drive her.
The feelings were reciprocated as well Y/N was head over heels in love with Billy, people couldn't understand how someone like Y/N and someone like Billy became a couple because they were both very different people inside and out— yet— they were the perfect couple and everyone could see it, the way Billy looked at Y/N was something girls dreamed of being looked at like that by their boyfriends.
The couple had been together for a little over a year, Y/N had been accepted into a university in California which is where Billy used to live with his mum, when Y/N got her place she was sad but also excited. She was sad because California and Hawkins were so very far from each other it was at least over three thousand miles from each other.
(*FLASHBACK*)
"I got a place at California." Y/N told Max who was so pleased for her
"Y/N that's great! Isn't it?" Max asked Y/N who just shrugged her shoulders with her head hanging low
"I guess so but what about Billy? What do I tell him?" Y/N asked Max who was about to speak to her friend but when she looked over Y/N's shoulder she saw Billy standing by the front door— Y/N turned her head behind her and saw Billy just standing and staring at her before he opened the door and bolted outside "Billy! Wait!" Y/N ran after her boyfriend and eventually caught up to him before he disappeared in his car.
"When did you find out?" Billy asked
"I got a letter in the post this morning I just didn't know how to tell you."
"Are you going to go?" Billy asked looked at Y/N and all she did was nod her head in agreement "So what does that mean for us?"
"I have had the best fourteen months with you Billy—"
"No don't you dare say what you're going to say." Billy said seriously, and when Y/N looked up at Billy she was already crying very lightly
"You know long distance doesn't work we have watched so many rubbish films to know that it just simply never works out for anyone. So I am going to let you go, as much as it hurts you need to move on from me Billy." Y/N whispered and Billy couldn't actually believe what was coming out of his girlfriends mouth
"What if I come with you? What if I move back to California to be with you?" Billy blurted out without even thinking
"Billy—"
"I mean it Y/N, there is nothing here for me and there never really has been. I was always going to go back to California but then I met you and you were my reason to stay here, and now you're moving it just makes sense to leave with you." Billy expressed— Y/N could try but she couldn't hold her smile back anymore before hugging Billy tightly as they were both sat in his car.
